India sends anti-radiation drugs to Indonesia after Cesium-137 contamination scare - The Tribune

Jakarta [Indonesia], October 15 (ANI): India has rushed a consignment of Prussian Blue (Pru-Decorp) capsules to Indonesia to help mitigate the effects of Cesium-137 contamination after Jakarta detected traces of radioactivity in exported food products.

#FukushimaNuclearPlant clean-up faces yet another delay

Story by Mari Yamaguchi, July 29, 2025

"The full-scale removal of melted nuclear fuel from the #tsunami-wrecked #FukushimaDaiichi power plant has been delayed by several years, with the operator now targeting 2037 or later for the crucial operation.

"Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (#TEPCO) announced the setback on Tuesday, underscoring the immense challenges still facing the site.

"TEPCO stated that 12 to 15 years of preparation are required before commencing full-scale debris removal at the No. 3 reactor, involving radiation reduction and facility construction.

"An estimated 880 tons of melted nuclear fuel and structural debris remain within the three reactors that suffered meltdowns following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

"This latest delay further jeopardises the Japanese government and TEPCO's existing 2051 target for decommissioning the plant.

"A test retrieval of a small fuel sample in November was already three years behind schedule, with some experts suggesting the entire #decommissioning process could extend beyond a century.

"TEPCO said it plans to stick to the current completion target of 2051.

" 'Realistically, we are aware of the difficulty (to achieve the target) but we will not drop the goal just yet, as we still don't have a clear work schedule after the full-scale removal begins,' said Akira Ono, chief decommissioning officer at TEPCO.

"Ono said TEPCO plans to examine preparation work necessary at the two other reactors within the next couple of years ahead of full-scale melted fuel retrieval.

"After small missions by robots [that were fried by radiation] to gather samples, experts will determine a larger-scale method for removing melted fuel, first at the No. 3 reactor.

"In May, Japan announced plans to use slightly radioactive soil, stored near Fukushima nuclear plant, for flower beds outside Prime Minister #ShigeruIshiba’s office. [Maybe put more waste there as well! Useless politicians! Who have access to #PrussianBlue pills which remove #Cesium137 from one's body!]

"The move is intended to demonstrate the safety of reusing soil that was removed from Fukushima prefecture during decontamination efforts following the 2011 nuclear disaster. Officials say that some of the soil has now reached levels deemed safe for reuse." [Using faulty dosimeters, I'll wager!]

Starting out big by sharing a triptych that was sold at last years' Hristmas market and some if my favourite pieces. Consisting of the works:
"Best part of summer24', Mycelia & Worst part of summer 24' "

Now it's hanging in the entrance of a happy owner 😊

Intaglio printing, drypoint etching on zink plates handprinted on acid free quality cotton paper with oilbased ink in prussian blue and yes, orange. πŸ˜… The chemical reaction between the ink and zink plate reminds of burned sienna. Which is why the colors seems a bit different but this has been depending on how long I've spend on removing the ink from the plate.

A circle of wood, the grain of which is carved and burned, a deep Prussian blue. At the center white shapes radiate outwards. The shapes are of fern leaves, stems meeting in the middle. Pictured is a cyanotype print made on a circle of wood.A light Prussian blue glows under the sheen of water running across the surface. Orange lines zip through the scene. White shapes forming leaves and stems radiate from the upper center. Pictured is a detail of a cyanotype printed on carved and burned wood as piece is rinsed in waterA blue, metal board, covered in dark paint streaks from projects long completed. On the board site a circular piece of wood, the grain carved and burned to draw your attention to them. The surface is a shade of olive green, the tone of a cyanotype print before washing in water. On the wood are several fern leaves, the bases of the stems meeting in the middle and radiating outwards. All of this sits under a sheet of glass.

Just released a new zine, called "The Future is Blue"!

It's a zine about the utopian resonance of the colour blue and cyanotyping as an aesthetic, epistemic, and temporal strategy for envisioning alternative futures.

This is a limited print run of 20ish zines, featuring individually-printed cyanotype covers.

Available for purchase through my zine shop, with worldwide shipping!

a spread of the zine, "The Future is Blue: cyanotypes, temporality, and utopian horizons." Printed in blue, the front cover has a sketch of cyanotype chemicals, and the back cover has a picture of a payphone. The back cover quotes a conversation: "But what does blue stand for?" "I don't know. Hope, maybe."A stack of five zines printed in varying hues of blue.

Safely removing nanoplastics from water using 'Prussian blue', a pigment used to dye jeans
Prussian blue, a metal-organic frameworks-based substance made by adding iron (III) chloride to a potassium ferrocyanide solution, is the first synthetic pigment used to dye jeans a deep blue color and has recently been used to adsorb cesium, a radioactive element, from Japanese nuclear plant wastewater.

Used the bright sun for some #cyanotype experiments (aka #blueprint, aka #prussianblue ) with my son.

So much fun!

Seven blue cyanotype images using different exposures. They were made using mostly natural materials like leaves or flowers; except for one that pictures the paw prints / shadows of some paw patrol figurines.A rough cyanotype. The background is an intense blue, and on it in varying shades of white are the shadows of a lily flower, cornflowers, a big ornamental leek/garlic flower and some blades of grass. Not much composition here, mostly everything lying on top of each other chaotically.Three images on top of each other, showing the process of dyeing a t-shirt with prussian blue:
1) shirt is a strong green colo, several flowers, feathers and other material lying on top.
2) same scene, but the shirt is a really deep shade of blue (this is after exposure to the sun, but before rinsing)
3) rinsed shirt, blue with the objects' shadows showing up in white. An experiment with dyeing some scrap white fabric. Didn't quite turn out blue, it's still greenish in some places. There are small flowers all over it, and some big leaves, too.

In 1706, Johann Jacob Diesbach accidentally discovered the formula for the synthetic pigment Prussian blue. #Poetry #Science #History #Chemistry #Pigments #PrussianBlue (sharpgiving.com/thebookofscien)

Prussian blue was discovered by accident by painter Heinrich Diesbach in Berlin in 1704-5 (which is why it is also known as Berlin blue) while attempting to create a paint with a red hue.

Also, although it contains a cyanide ion, the cyanide is so tightly bound to the iron that it is completely harmless and is actually used as internal medicine for chelation therapy, to remove harmful heavy metals from the human body.

Finally, #PrussianBlue may be the key to more sustainable future electrochemical rechargeable storage batteries, which although they do not provide quite as high energy density as Li-ion cells, withstand tens of thousands of recharge cycles, instead of hundreds.

An 8 oz bottle will cost you less than $5 and can be found in virtually any grocery store.

There is, however, one caveat. The Sheaffer pen company did some research back in the 1940s (IIRC) and discovered that there is a possibility that #PrussianBlue can corrode gold alloys, which are often used for nibs in expensive #FountainPens. Prussian Blue is ferric ferrocyanide, and presumably the corrosion would be due to ion replacement. Cyanidic compounds are used in gold refining because of this. …
