This bug is frustrating me.

At least I managed to confirm that it is indeed the case that my #podman #quadlets are not starting on boot even with #systemd enable-linger and WantedBy=default.target.

The moment I ssh into the machine the services start.

Ok, so i'm trying to renovate my #homelab, which is currently a bunch of docker compose on an old NAS. I wanted to switch to Podman for a while, and found out about #quadlets. Nice, but how do i not lose track of what's there? Then i saw a toot about #orches recently, which i _thought_ would allow me to just have everything in a git repo (meanwhile i also found #quadit and #fetchit, which seem similar).

But, somehow i can't make a coherent picture out of these... orches doesn't support .pod (more complicated apps like nextcloud) nor .kube (local testing!) quadlets, quadit _only_ synchronizes quadlet files (so how do i get my Caddyfile onto the machine?) and fetchit doesn't even know about quadlets yet.

Maybe i'll just write a CD pipeline for it and have a runner on the host?

In recent times my Raspberry Pi server with #MicroOS has been behaving weirdly.

My server sometimes goes down and it seems it's because of an automated system restart according to the logs (when I have transactional-update disabled, so that shouldn't be happening).

When that happens, it takes a bit for me to ssh to it. It seems like my #podman #quadlets are not obeying #systemd enable-linger and starting on boot with WantedBy=default.target , because they only start after I ssh to it.

i found a good blog post explaining how to use systemd socket units and systemd socket proxy to automatically start a podman quadlet container on the first connection and stop it after some idle period

This is a goldmine of #podman #networking tricks:

Example: Use socket units with `ReusePort=true` for your container units to let multiple containers share one port and let the kernel do the load-balancing via SO_REUSEPORT

TIL what #quadlets/#podlets are... nice thing. its just another #systemd unit now :D

This has been what's it's all been for...

Bots raising PRs when a container is updated. I have the ability to roll back these back if something goes wrong and the same is true of OS updates.

#TIL #podman #quadlets can also be defined through `.kube` files in the same way as can be usually done with `.container` units.

i'm liking podman quadlets much more than docker compose. the learning curve was a bit steep but it was worth it for the deeper system integration

I think I've come to the end of the road with bootc.

I've spent a good few months building up my with rootless and but getting a self hosted CI/CD pipeline to update the machine has been so painful, and now I've got everything "working" I'm finding issues like the one linked below.

I think I'm going to have to join the band wagon and start over.

I know I can do podman or docker in Nix, but I'll want to do it fully Nix I think.

I find myself using quadlets more and more often, but the networking threw me for a loop when I first moved over from docker-compose.

Here's a quick post about getting your quadlets onto the same networks:

major.io/p/quadlet-networking/

#containers #quadlets #fedora #podman #networking

Alright, managed to make #Anubis + #Caddy + #Podman #Quadlets work.

I was having some issues, but those were caused by broken DNS resolution between containers because my VPS was still, somehow, using long deprecated CNI instead of Netavark.

#podman #quadlets require version 4.4 #debian ships with 4.3.1
Again back to the drawingboard for an ansible container template using podman... :blobcatfacepalm:

Dear all,

for playing around with the Ghost CMS / blog system I put together yet another vagrant-libvirt setup using Ansible and Podman Quadlets

Have a lot of fun.
