#Ventoy supports #SecureBoot when setup with it in mind and resetting the #UEFI by popping the battery for a minute will usually do the trick.
J'ai appris à pas mal utiliser la commande "dd if=xxxxw of=xxwww", et ça ouvre des aspects intéressants, notamment pouvoir créer un fichier .iso ou .dat et l'utiliser comme un disque dur (conservation du système de fichier interne). Faut que je creuse.
#Ventoy se révèle un outil bien puissant, notamment sur un hdd en sata avec une interface usb3 (le temps de charg. est très correct)La gestion des persistances est bonne, mais la limite des 4Go des dossier .dat cest pas ouf. On peut en ajouter plusieurs, donc pouvoir paramétrer la même distro en plusieurs versions.

In letzter Zeit haben wir meist ca. 20 USB-Sticks à 64 GiB mit #Ventoy als Multi-Boot-Sticks vorbereitet und Live-ISO-Images der wichtigsten Gnu/Linux-Distris und Desktops draufkopiert (und verifiziert!). Aber weil es so lange dauert, moderne Laptops zum Booten vom USB-Stick zu überreden, hatten die Teilis gar nicht genug Zeit, mehrere Distris auszuprobieren. Statt dessen haben sie uns gefragt, welche sie nehmen sollen. Dann haben wir meistens „Linux Mint mit Cinnamon“ gesagt. Manchmal gab es aber Probleme, das vom Ventoy-Stick zu installieren (weil der Installer als Ziel den Stick wählte). Also haben wir immer Sticks dabei, auf denen nur der Mint-Installer ist (ohne Ventoy). Eigentlich könnt ihr euch den Ventoy-Aufwand sparen. /c

Gestern wegen #endof10 meinem Nachbarn einen Bootstick mit #ventoy installiert.
Er möchte ein #Linux #mint installieren.
Gut dachte ich, gleich noch das passende ISO runterladen...
Begeistert war ich auf den ersten Blick von dieser Distro aber nicht.
Aktuell ist anscheinend 22.3 und je nach zu verwendendem Desktop braucht man ein anderes ISO.
Dann ja wohl besser #Debian stable, das ist erstaunlicherweise aktueller und man kann unterschiedliche Desktopsysteme einfach im laufenden Betrieb wählen.

Je suis peut-être à la ramasse, mais je découvre seulement #Ventoy, logiciel open source qui permet de créer des clés live usb en glissant / déposant simplement le fichier iso de la distribution sur une partition de la clé.
Si Ventoy détecte plusieus iso, il génère un menu permettant de choisir sur quel système démarrer la machine.

@Hadeur Ach ja, und diese Woche habe ich den vierten Thin Client mittels Ventoy installiert und muss feststellen, dass Ventoy das ganze wirklich sehr komfortabel macht. Künftig nicht mehr für jedes OS einen Bootstick erstellen müssen, sondern einfach die ISO auf den Ventoy-Stick kopieren und ab geht die Post.

I just tried both for my elderly neighbour’s old laptop and some others (thank you #ventoy !!) and i much prefer mint (in #debian flavour).
For a usability focused distro, my goto is #elementaryOS which has some similarities with MacOS and is well worth a look.
I have all three on my ventoy usb stick, so trying them all is a matter of picking each on reboot - took all of 20 minutes to give each a spin.
Unos meses atrás comentaba por aquí la desconfianza había surgido en el código de #Ventoy , un fantástica aplicación #opensource para crear un usb arrancable con la posibilidad de múltiples ISOs.
El desarrollador tardó mucho en responder a las críticas y la app quedó tocada en su credibilidad y yo mismo dejé de usarla y recomendarla.

When you have workflows like mine it's unreasonable to have dozens of slow usb sticks ready to dd distributions on. It's cumbersome to index / manage so many slow devices. USB sticks also live much shorter than 2.5" SSD's here. I've had some working for years (mostly reads) And some fail in weeks after many writes, for me unreliable storage devices
Ventoy has become a vital tool ISO mangagement and booting for me, since I can dump bootable ISO''s of most OS's on SATA SSD's, structure the ISO's in logical directory flows and have a librarian oversight of them
I can mount the SSD via an USB3 tray and thus move hundreds of ISO's around without a fuzz. I use 2.5" SATA SSD's because they are large enough in physical dimensions to be handled easily and I can write and ID on them with a marker. They can also live for years of R/W operations without failing.
Ventoy can easily boot a variety ISO/WIM/IMG/VHD(x)/EFI of OS's which are of various origin.

When a ISO++ fails to boot, you need to make the coder(s) of Ventoy aware of it, and chances are that in the next update, scripts have been finetuned so Ventoy can handle that family of files also.
