@Datenpunks das mag nicht ganz Punk like sein, doch zeigt denn Leuten auch wie sie nicht nur Linux, sondern auch mal ne #Debian oder #OpenBSD von und mit #ISO #CD installieren werden kann #Datenintigrität #Privacy #Sicherheit #Datenschutz sind mehr und mehr ein Ding - grad wo zentralisierte Dienst alles aus einer Quelle bringen - dann doch lieber mal bei denn einzelnen periodisierten Distribution aus die Seite surfen, ggf. Ein Tshirt, sonstigen Merch mitklingen oder eine Spende da lassen. Die Entwickler freuen sich, die Seiten bekommen mal wieder etwas mehr Klickzahlen, denn auch die leben von Werbung und buymeacoffee oder ähnlichem. Es wird sich schon auszahlen und gut für die Infrastruktur sein, wenn die Entwickler Geld haben um auch ab und an mal die Bugbountys Prämien zahlen können. BigTech macht das flapsig gesprochen aus der Portokasse, ein kleiner OpenBSD, Debian Mensch hat tendenzielle eher nicht das Kapital dafür, und ist eher auf kleinem Posten verglichen mit Windows, MacOS etc.

As a developer with 40+ years in the backpack, I'm thinking my next project will only accept dates as YYYYMMDD (and YYYY-MM-DD), and force usage of 24h time. I may, possibly, allow for dates to be *displayed* as DD-MMM-YY (or -YYYY) ... 🤔

I was browsing Linux content on YouTube today and found people selling "pre-loaded" Linux USB sticks for $20+.
Stop. Please, don't buy these unless you really know the risks involved. If you have the bandwidth, there's no reason to pay a premium.
First, you are paying a massive markup for a free file and a single command. You are also booting an operating system you didn't verify yourself, which is a huge security risk.
Please do not just trust mystery sticks.
Creating your own is free, takes about 5 minutes, and ensures your kernel hasn't been tampered with.
Here is how you do it:
1. Download the ISO directly from the source (Debian, Fedora, etc).
2. Use a free, open-source tool like Rufus (available on Windows).
3. Plug in a spare USB drive, select your ISO, and hit "Flash."
You can also do all of this in the terminal if you feel comfortable with it and you can even check the hash to be sure your ISO has not been tampered with it, but Rufus is great.

If you know someone who needs a Linux drive and doesn't know how to make one, do it for them. Don't let them get fleeced by opportunists.
Don't pay for convenience at the cost of your security. Own your hardware.

Using a #nixos #ISO to boot device before installing a flake. ISO seems to have an implicit default enabling #pulseaudio. When upgrading to #nixos2405 #nixos25dot05 #nixos25 higher version, PulseAudio options are removed/deprecated and cause service.pulseaudio does not exist during nixos-rebuild switch (before the flake). Flow is: sudo nix-channel --update (24.05 metadata only) → patch configuration.nix for audio compatibility → sudo nixos-rebuild switch. Curious if this is expected behaviour?
