Where do I install bootloader for dual boot of Ubuntu / Windows 7? #dualboot #partitioning #grub2 #windows7 #ubuntumate

What would be nice is if Aurorae window decorations allowed certain items like the window icon to be in a different position from the window buttons to make it so stuff like Aero Glass themes can be more accurate. I'd use a Windows 7 theme but the icon being in the wrong spot bothered me. Haven't checked into this for a while, so it could've changed but I haven't noticed. Only other issue is blur doesn't work with wobbly windows last I knew.

I'm having fun working on a soon-to-be vintage #HP #Pavilion #Athlon-powered desktop machine to be sold on the Irish market.

It had no IDE disks when I got it, only a SATA disk - and it seems the #WindowsVista installer doesn't support installation on SATA disks! #Windows7 prompts me for a driver, but Vista is period-correct for this machine, so I'm popping a 200GB Samsung IDE disk into it.

Eigentlich komplett bescheuert.

Anstatt im copyshop Briefe auszudrucken, bau ich ein #windows7 lade 5gb updates und patches mit 500kbps nur um einen MFP ans laufen zu bekommen.

Ich glaub, das ist das einzige Gerät, was unter Linux nicht unterstützt wird...

Aber zum wegschmeissen einfach zu schade.

Blast from the past: A Win 7 bug briefly made PCs boot 30 secs slower if you used a solid desktop background. The OS waited for components, and the simple background caused a timeout. Fixed in late 2009. Wild times.

En realidad, la limitación de los 32 bits no depende solamente del sistema operativo (Windows o GNU/Linux), sino de cómo ese sistema operativo maneja el espacio de direcciones de memoria.

Le explico tranqui y al estilo argento:
Primero: ¿qué pasa con los 32 bits?

PUNTO 1. Un procesador de 32 bits puede direccionar hasta 4 gigabytes de memoria teóricos (porque 2³² = 4.294.967.296 direcciones posibles, o sea, 4 gigabytes).

PUNTO 2. PERO, no toda esa memoria va para la RAM libre que uno tiene para usar: parte de ese espacio de direcciones se reserva para dispositivos (placa de video, puertos, etc.).

PUNTO 3. Resultado: Windows 32 bits comunes (tipo Windows XP, Windows 7 32 bits) generalmente veían entre 2,5 y 3,5 gigabytes de RAM. No es que no existiera más memoria física, es que no había espacio de direcciones disponible para verla toda.

¿Y por qué GNU/Linux 32 bits puede reconocer más de 4 gigabytes?

Dieser Artikel ist sicherlich schon anderthalb Jahre alt - zu erkennen daran, dass #Windows7 und 8.1 erwähnt werden - für #Windows10 und 11 aber sicherlich noch gültig.
