Maybe it's the GenX in me... Maybe it's my flavor of neurospicy.

But I utterly loathe the video instructional culture that seems to pervade these days.

Write it the fuck down. Make it a document. Include photos.

Don't blab at me. Don't make me watch you explain anything and everything other than the one thing I came to figure out how to do. Don't make me watch you introduce why it is that you needed to make this video about the one thing I need to know.

Write it down.

Do your video. but give me a link to well written documentation that I can go to instead.

When you are the providers of a piece of software and your documentation library is largely a list of links to YouTube videos, you make me want to stop using you.

It's utterly infuriating.

Now that I'm about to start drafting the last fantasy book, I'll be moving back to alternating "drafting this/plotting that" working, which has worked really well for me in the past. So the next thing on the plan is a series of SF thrillers featuring the characters from my very first book.

I was pleasantly surprised to find I'd already sketched out not only the bones of the plot but quite a lot of the meat too. Almost exactly three years ago. No wonder I don't remember doing it. The balloon of my happiness was soon deflated by the prick of harsh reality when I came across mention of a story I'd provisionally entitled "Electric Shock."

I'd drafted the first 1000 words as a candidate for submission to a thriller anthology, but beyond that I have no notes of any kind. I intended it to be around 25-30k words, set sometime in the 5 years that have elapsed between books 1 & 2, and to use it as a reader magnet for the series. But three years on I have zero recollection what the story was going to be about, and having checked all my Scrivener projects and writing folders, I find I didn't write a synopsis or even as much as a one-sentence logline. What an idiot 🤬​
