@joel Love working on old computers and seeing what I could do with them! I tried installing Linux on all my old devices a few years ago and it was fun trying different distros. The one that worked with the oldest tech I had was :antix: #antixlinux with #XFCE.

Please, anyone: why does windows tiling with Meta-Right not work on #XFCE, and with Meta-Left not on Tumbleweed? I always have to re-set it in the Window Settings?

I'd like to point out that this article is inaccurate as far as official #Xfce development goes.

The merge mentioned in this article is for an unsupported fork of #xfwm4

At this point, there are no plans to take these commits and merge them into the xfwm4 repository at https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfwm4

I'm using XFCE on Debian Unstable, and policykit-1-gnome was recently removed from the repositories, which was the default choice of XFCE for the dialogues that pop up when you try to start an app that requires elevated permissions, like Synaptic for instance.

Long story short, mate-polkit is a good replacement.

maybe not favorite, but a huge quality-of-life tweak:

xinput to switch mouse buttons for left hand, independently of other mice on the system - for some reason, (last I looked) only #XFCE had this option in a GUI.

most impactful: switching to #dvorak layout

(I also considered editing the code and re-compiling #Firefox with #emacs keyboard shortcuts. Maybe this summer.)

OpenSuse is nice but too many things are not compliant with my brain. Updates keep telling me daily they want to be installed (despite setting check for once a week) for instance.

trying to get xfce launcher to play 40 random shuffled mp3s from a specific folder using mplayer. can get the command to work in the terminal, but it doesn't work in the launcher.

command is this. what do i need to change to get it to run in the xfce launcher?

just hold the windows key and you can now drag it anywhere

this feature, in one way or another, existed for more than a decade and is (from my experience) part of #GNOME, #KDE, #Xfce and even #Openbox (some of them disagree on whether to use Alt or the Windows key, but all of them have it) -- even Sway, which is a tiling window manager, still uses the same workflow to reorganize windows
