Reminder...

Drink enough water, as long as clean water exists.

Take your meds, as long as you can afford them.

Take a deep breath, before the air pollution gets too bad.

Talk to your friends, until you'll only have AI to talk to.

Have a nice day! It might be the last one of those.

A new flower greeted me this morning.

New instance, new #introduction! My name is Ivan, I'm a proud nerd who's passionate about open source and vintage tech.

I'm not exactly new to the fediverse as I've actually been a proud user for over three years. I've decided to migrate from Fosstodon due to instance drama.

i'm not going to link any of them here, for a variety of reasons, but please be aware of what is probably the deadliest AI scam i've ever heard of:

Hey lovely Mastodon folk. I've just released an HP-35, HP-45, HP-80 simulator called HP-1973 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the HP-45 calculator. (Free) standalone versions for Mac and WIndows (no need for any Python installation or knowledge) & Python source for Linux. It's been a coding marathon, so it'd mean a lot to me if you could boost this post, so it gets in front of the right people. Download here: sarahkmarr.com/retrohp1973.html Enjoy.

A screenshot of a calculator simulator, with an awful lot of text showing an awful lot of detail. Other images in this thread are very similar.

I continue to try to make art that is not squid. Not-squid are very hard, but I think this turned out pretty cute.

A long vertical image shows a band of the night sky from horizon at the bottom to the opposite horizon -- at the image top. A person stands on a snow covered landscape with the central band of the Milky Way running between horizons. Each horizon is lit by red, yellow, and green auroras.

Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis)

This just might be my favorite cardinal photo - so far. I posted a version of it months ago, so this is a redo. It's amazing how these little birds can navigate through thickets of branches like they do.

"The brilliant red of a male Northern Cardinal calls attention to itself when males are around. You can also find cardinals by getting a sense of the warm, red-tinged brown of females – a pattern you can learn to identify in flight. Away from backyards, cardinals are still common but inconspicuous owing to their affinity for dense tangles. Listen for their piercing chip notes to find where they are hiding." - allaboutbirds.org

This male northern cardinal has his wings spread wide and is flying through a thicket of branches. His head and body point to the left. Light reflects off of this conical red beak. A black mask borders the beak as well as his dark brown eye. off which light reflects. The rest of his head and body are bright red except for the tips of his flight feathers that bend upwards with the air pressure, which are more of a gray brown. His tail angles slightly downward, the end of which is hidden by branches. His pink legs and feet dangle below his body.

"The Northern Cardinal is a fairly large, long-tailed songbird with a short, very thick bill and a prominent crest. Cardinals often sit with a hunched-over posture and with the tail pointed straight down. Male cardinals are brilliant red all over, with a reddish bill and black face immediately around the bill. Females are pale brown overall with warm reddish tinges in the wings, tail, and crest. They have the same black face and red-orange bill." - allaboutbirds.org

@robpike my kindles have been pretty reliable. I have to charge the batteries but other than that? Pretty solid.

I've not done #SundayPix for ages. Anyway, here's "round" for #SundayPixShapes

The head and neck of a mute swan. The neck is curved in an almost perfect circle as the swan uses its beak to groom the feathers at the base of its neck.

@hannah

#fursuit ? Any help here?
