#ScientificAmerican: In the Quantum Realm, Time’s Arrow Might Fly in Two Directions.

❛❛ the researchers’ work suggests that two time’s arrows, rather than one, are a spontaneous feature of an open #quantum system.

The new work adds to some interesting questions about what #physicists deem relevant in their #studies of #time. ❜❜

I wonder if creatures in 2d world can only move forwards in direction, never step back?!🤔

And those in 4d worlds, their life is like a cinema that can be rewound or fast forward?

Scientists have discovered a discrepancy between the two main concepts of the “arrow of time.” The thermodynamic arrow, which points toward increasing entropy, and the psychological arrow, which aligns with our perception of time moving from past to future, don’t always match up. This finding challenges our understanding of time and its relationship with the universe, prompting further investigation into the nature of time itself.

Don't
Stop
Thinking about yesterday.
Don't
Stop.
It was soon to be here.
Then it was here! Better than before...
Day before day before yesterday's gone!
Day before day before yesterday's gone!
Oooooohhh...
Don't you look further back...

#1 error made was extrapolating from a closed system like a water tank to an open system like the .
isn't linear, as pointed out, and nor is the lifespan of the universe finite.
The isn't fading away, it's gradually curling upon itself to become a circle; the of the Universe isn't its end, it's the cool moment before it begins.
When we understand what is, the laws of will be thrown out.

“You’re the same you you’ve always been, but you’re not quite the same you I’ve always known.” Under icy moonlight the deep umber of Meri’s eyes looks almost black, but their garnet rings still feel as warm as afternoon sun, sparkling as her lips pinch into the corner of a smile. “No. No, not yet.” With a touch like a butterfly’s wing, she tucks Nerissa’s hair behind her left ear. “But I think you will be very soon.”

(It’s been a slow burn to get here)

Historical scenes have definitely been the trickiest to write, but in a fun way. Because I want to be accurate, so I had to do some reading about ancient Baghdad, Constantinople, and Alexandria! It’s nice to include small but important details like food and clothing.

This question makes me realise I should spend a little time working on lunar culture a bit. There really should be a few sayings and proverbs up there.

Oh boy, languages. Didn’t I say a while ago that I should figure this out? Nerissa speaks at least five languages at the start of the story, and she uses English, Latin, French, and a little Arabic and Cantonese. She learns a couple more as she goes.

As for Meri, let’s just say that if you lived for thousands of years, you’d probably pick up a few.

Some might be surprised that people don’t need to spend money for food and other basic needs on the Moon. They decided that it doesn’t make sense to have poor, hungry, or homeless people, especially in a place with a limited amount of space. Post-scarcity is the only ethical way to make offworld cities work. What would they do otherwise, make them sleep outdoors?

Nerissa doesn’t have any trouble sleeping. At least, when she can find a decent place to sleep.

The most useful skill Nerissa has is in languages. In her POV, she always picks out things like accents and how speech sounds. Her skill is that she's a polyglot who can usually learn a language up to conversational level in around a week or two. Very useful, considering she spends all her time travelling.

Also, I haven't made a list of the languages she speaks. I really should do that.

21 ties in with 20. Nerissa struggles with not really knowing what she's doing, and that really holds her back. Her story is about learning to focus and confront her problems instead of avoiding them.
