Once again, we see the same playbook: when "fiscal responsibility" is needed, it's always education, healthcare, and social services on the chopping block. Never corporate subsidies. Never tax loopholes for the wealthy. Never the billions in concessions to mining companies.
Liberals talk about "tough choices" while protecting the comfortable and squeezing the vulnerable. The pattern is crystal clearâausterity for the many, prosperity for the few.

With the Trump administration, the right question to ask is not "When are they lying?" but rather "When are they NOT lying?" Their whole public life is a total lie up to an extent that we really must ask ouselves if we're not dealing with people that are incapable of hearing - nevermind accepting - the truth.
"It should not come as a surprise that Vought, who admitted that his goal is to traumatize federal workers and drastically slash funding for social programs, has institutionalized DOGE in his role as OMB director. From breaking the civil service through mass firings (including the euphemistically named reduction-in-force, or RIF, orders) to unlawfully canceling the disbursement of funds appropriated by Congress (including through so-called pocket rescissions), Vought has been at the forefront of achieving DOGEâs mission.
Of course, this requires understanding that DOGEâs objective was never to save taxpayer dollars. Musk did not âfail,â as some credulously argued, but succeeded in a spectacularly evil goal. DOGE wasâand remains, through Voughtâs OMBâan effort to extinguish the existing government and create a new one in the image of oligarchs and far-right ideologues. Vought, itâs worth noting, has no issue with a $1 trillion military budget. Climate science, environmental and health regulations, and social welfare spending, on the other hand, are treated as unacceptable impediments to unfettered profitmaking.
Itâs easy to see the continuity between Muskâs DOGE and Voughtâs OMB when considering their shared method: baselessly claim that something is an example of âwaste, fraud, and abuse,â and then take a chainsaw to it. Defunding projects that clash with Donald Trumpâs right-wing goals is the through line, and it was presaged in Project 2025."

This headline reminds me that interest rates were effectively at zero for most of the lost 14 Tory years. They could have borrowed billions cheaply and rebuilt our infrastructure and economy.
Instead they inflicted austerity on us and let the country go to the dogs.
