I think this is a first for me on Mastodon: linking to a post on LinkedIn.

However, empowering handicapped people is so important, and I was so impressed with this short video that I wanted to share this development.

A woman is shown in two side-by-side images.

On the left, she is using crutches and wearing a white long-sleeve shirt with black pants and white sneakers.

On the right, she is walking without crutches, wearing the same outfit, but with a robotic orthosis on her legs.

The text at the bottom reads "Sin Órtesis Robótica" (without prosthetic) on the left and "Órtesis C-Brace" (with prosthetic) on the right.
The logo "ottobock" is visible at the bottom.

@krishean that's not how #systemd works.

SystemD was created because #SysVinit was shit and noone fixed it or made something better.

#Wayland is the future as #Xorg is being #EoL'd.

  • #Linux as a Kernel works fine, so no reason to replace it.

For the shitty #GlibC we have alternatives like #bionic and espechally #musl!

BTW: #Linux is the #dominant #OS to access the internet according to StatCouter

Now whilst #macOS is propably gaining more absolute users, Linux gets #mainstream because for most users it already includes everything they want and need out of the box at a far lower #TCO even if we choose an extremely expensive #Support #Subscription for comparison just because it takes less personnel hours!

This #SomeMoreNews episode is about #brainchips but one interesting your they touch on is how miracle #medicaldevices that are demonstrated during feel-good #news stories like #amputee #veterans getting a state-of-the-art #bionic limb don't actually get to keep it.

So I would like to suggest to all #journalists out there who get a chance to cover these breakthroughs: specifically ask the people in charge on camera if the patient gets to keep the equipment they're demonstrating, or if they're going to receive one free or what.

Because that's some bullshit, y'all. These companies going out and farming good will by tricking is into believing they've transformed a person's life but really they only teased them with what life could be like. They're Lucy to the patient's Charlie Brown just holding that football...

"A robotic leg that can be fully controlled by the brain and spinal cord has enabled seven people who had lost a lower leg to walk roughly as fast as people without amputations.

The bionic limb uses a computer interface that amplifies nerve signals from muscles in the remaining part of the leg and allows the wearer to move the prosthesis with their own thoughts and natural reflexes."

Researchers are exploring using livable human skin to cover a mechanical apparatus. Apparently, human skin has interesting properties for robots also.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Arh-fkTMkn0

To demonstrate this concept, they’ve recreated a human face.

“In this study, we managed to replicate human appearance to some extent by creating a face with the same surface material and structure as humans,” said Takeuchi. “Additionally, through this research, we identified new challenges, such as the necessity for surface wrinkles and a thicker epidermis to achieve a more humanlike appearance. […] Of course, movement is also a crucial factor, not just the material, so another important challenge is creating humanlike expressions by integrating sophisticated actuators, or muscles, inside the robot.

Dude, you’re going to have to do better than putting 2 googly eyes on a petri dish to call this a human face. But at least it seems you’re having fun.
