Trying to fix my #BlueYeti mic and not scar it too badly... that ship has sailed, sadly. Now I shall look truly solarPUNK when recording, I guess (though guests tend not to be able to see my mic over video chat).

Well, the first thing I learned when I began this bit of CPD for improving the audio in my work is that I had been using my microphone wrong for a very long time. When I used it at all, that is, because I was so unhappy with it that I usually just used a headphone or earpiece mike or the one integrated in whatever laptop I might be using.

If you have a Blue Yeti (mine is shown in the wrong setup in the image at the start of this thread, more or less correct in the image here) and you record in cardioid mode, don't be a dummy like me and speak into the top of it! Speak at the front, on the side, with the microphone perhaps 15 to 25 cm from your mouth. There are a few good YouTube tutorials that demonstrate best practice with this microphone, one of which is:

The #BlueYeti microphone, heavier and bigger than expected even though I've read/watched so many reviews on it. Great sound, I actually don't mind hearing my voice through it! Need to get a boom arm next.
