Is there a better place to post videos for stuff like howtos and general tutorials?
I only know Youtube (slightly) but is there another option?

Back from a much-needed holiday, I’ve now built version 3.0 of my recording booth for sound and #videotutorials. Still lots of refinements ahead, like re-mounting acoustic foam and adding Velcro to the sound-dampening hangings for easier set-up and disassembly.
A phone is placed in the mount and used as a second monitor for a computer outside the booth, which is controlled by the touchscreen and/or Bluetooth keyboard. Noise floor around -85 dB in there.
Well, well. SPACEDESK just saved me the bother of getting a smaller second monitor to use for my computer inside the recording booth. Now I'll use my iPhone 13 mini most of the time and reduce hard surfaces to a minimum!
In the effort to eliminate further noise sources in the recording booth, I put the computer outside and replaced it with a big screen my bad eyes can see better, and I took my Bluetooth keyboard out of storage. I really look forward to making tutorials for #memoQ and other productivity tools in the new space!
Well, my journey down the #audio #voiceover rabbit hole to produce better #videotutorials for #translation and #localization #CPD and #TranslationStudies has been quite productive.
I've created "Version 1" of a sound studio to improve recording quality and make those #xl8 / #l10n tutorials and other content easier on the ears and more consistent with sound levels, background noise, etc. Total cost so far has been only about €100. The minimum cost of similar bare bones set-ups to buy is around €1000, with professional booths costing about €4000 to €10,000 typically.
I'll publish plans for what I've done later on my YouTube channel and blog; I'm waiting to upgrade with corner joints I ordered from Amazon. Here in rural Portugal on the Spanish border all I could get was L- and T-joints, so the basic construction was a lot less basic than it should have been 😃
Well, the first thing I learned when I began this bit of CPD for improving the audio in my work is that I had been using my microphone wrong for a very long time. When I used it at all, that is, because I was so unhappy with it that I usually just used a headphone or earpiece mike or the one integrated in whatever laptop I might be using.
If you have a Blue Yeti (mine is shown in the wrong setup in the image at the start of this thread, more or less correct in the image here) and you record in cardioid mode, don't be a dummy like me and speak into the top of it! Speak at the front, on the side, with the microphone perhaps 15 to 25 cm from your mouth. There are a few good YouTube tutorials that demonstrate best practice with this microphone, one of which is:
Rumors of my demise are premature. I'm tootin' y'all from deep down the #videotutorials rabbit hole where I've spent most of the past week learning how to improve the sound quality of my teaching videos for #translation colleagues and consulting clients working with #memoQ and other #localization tools. It turns out there's a lot to learn from the #voiceover community, such as the fact that I have been using my "expensive" studio microphone wrong for the past seven years or more. More, I think.
Well, anyway, if you're a technical dummy like me, stay tuned for possible tips on how to do better audio with the next #tutorial and go a bit easier on the ears of the people you're trying to help.
Are you needing to screen record in Windows 11 and don't want to download third party software? 🤔
Don't worry, the Snipping Tool in Windows 11 has got you covered with its latest update! 🤩🎬💻
With the Snipping Tool, you can easily capture screenshots and record your screen without any hassle. 📷🎥
And what's better is that it is super easy to share the clips you make via the copy menu or saving as a file. You can even then use Clipchamp to edit them further for free!
You can use it to create engaging video tutorials, demos, presentations, and more. 🚀💡
So, what are you waiting for? Check out my quick guide video and try it out today! 👇
