Food for thought: Anti-Zionism as Decolonisation

"It is essential to note that Palestinians have never rejected Jewish indigeneity in Palestine. However, the liberation movement has differentiated between zionist settlers and Jewish natives. Palestinians have established a clear and rational framework for this distinction, like in the Thawabet, the National Charter of Palestine from 1968. Article 6 states, ‘The Jews who had normally resided in Palestine until the beginning of the Zionist invasion will be considered Palestinians.’

When individuals misread ‘decolonisation’ as ‘the mass killing or expulsion of Jews,’ it is often a reflection of their own entanglement in colonialism or a result of zionist propaganda. Perpetuating this rhetoric is a deliberate misinterpretation of Palestinian thought, which has maintained this position over a century of indigenous organising."

đŸ’Ÿ The beauty of #Solarpunk is that there can be so many angles: #technology, social infrastructure, #nature, #trauma, #decolonialism, etc.

Realistically, a single story can't take all of those on at the same time (although a masterful author can be able to weave everything together). Yet it seems to me that all these stories are choosing the same angle with very little variation.

Perhaps we shouldn’t look at Grist like the paragon of solarpunk but rather, as they write themselves, just #Clifi.

a mutual aid request that reads:

"Hello, my name is Isaac Jasper, I'm an Indigenous Decolonial Broadcast Journalist. I am in urgent need of help with rent, utilities, and food. I need to raise $2000 by December 15th, 2024 to keep a roof over my family's head and keep the lights on. Many of you may know me from my work on TINN Media Network. (The Indigenous Nightmare Network) which is a decolonial broadcast media network with over three years of decolonial insight, conversations and neew breaks, which is only possible because of support from Community members like you. This is urgent and would deeply mean a lot if those who seen this would share and or help out financially in any capacity. Below are ways to help directly get me to my goal and also help me keep a roof over my head."

The right corner has the logo for TINN. Which is a glitchy background with maroon text that simply says:

My French students do not know Franz #Fanon (that's ok, I am here to teach and doing that).
But an Algerian friend say that this letter (1956) is being taught in #Algeria's high schools.
Striking a bit, isn't it.
"Frenchmen" let others read letters addressed to them.

“On the night following Marcellus Khalifah Williams’s martyrdom at the hands of the state, we went to the walls of the Orleans Parish Prison along I-10 in New Orleans, under a waning crescent moon, and scrawled a message:

“America is a prison! Abolition now!”

To symbolize the extension of the genocidal, fascist carceral systems that permeate every facet of modern america, we wanted to remind commuters that fascism is not some looming specter on the horizon, but material reality right now for so many occupied communities. The orgy of surveillance, the disappearance of unhoused people in the lead-up to the Super Bowl, the social death of the poor as we struggle to afford basic necessities under an ongoing pandemic, the hollow spectacle of electoral politics.

The cages extend into schools, hospitals, mental health facilities, treatment centers, “low-income” housing, into the way we interact and police each other and ourselves.

We wish to remind people of the infinite possibilities for collective resistance against colonialism, of the world-making that continues ongoing in the face of fascism here in the US, in Palestine, and across the globe.

We remain vigilant in attending to Marcellus Khalifah Williams’s collective remembrance: his spirit lives on in our struggle and resistance.

As the genocide in Palestine rages on, we urge folks to escalate against the Zionist entities, and to reconfirm their commitments to decolonial struggles within their communities, collectives, affinity groups, etc.

Destroying Zionism, white supremacy, and capitalism is the only path toward liberatory modes of living, of being free.”

Helsinki Commission hearing on Russian Imperial identity. The 5 centuries of Moscow’s #colonialism that Russian people have never admitted or processed, and therefore never felt regret for.

Kremlin’s propaganda keeps touting Moscow as anti-colonialist. In reality it is perhaps the most brutal of all european colonial empires.

But the people they enslaved had white skin. This I think has thrown the #decolonialism activists off for a long time. I hope no more.

📅 Dates: September 27 to 29, 2024
📍 Location: UniversitĂ© du QuĂ©bec Ă  MontrĂ©al, Amphitheater (SH-2800), 200 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal (Quebec) H2X 3P2

This exceptional event will bring together leading speakers, including Omar Barghouti, Joseph Massad, Houria Boutelja, Ramón Grosfoguel, MichÚle Sibony, Françoise VergÚs, Ellen Gabriel, and many more.

Key Points of the Conference:

- Languages: The talks will be in English and French, with simultaneous translation provided.

- Registration: Participation is free, but registration is required.

- Voluntary Contribution: To make this event possible, we encourage donations.

- Discussion: Significant importance is given to audience participation for each panel. Your contributions to the discussions are therefore more than welcome if you wish to prepare something to say.

The Bandung Northern Conference is inspired by the spirit of Bandung 1955 and will be fully organized by non-white individuals. It will be a first in North America and aims to forge a political alliance among decolonial movements in the West, while addressing the challenges posed by supremacist nationalisms, ultraliberalism, and imperialist domination in all its forms.

Launched in 2018 in Paris with influential figures such as Angela Davis and Fred Hampton Junior. This first edition was an essential starting point for discussions around a decolonial international. Subsequently, a second conference was held in Brussels in 2022 and Barcelona in 2023.

The endorsers of Bandung du Nord are three emblematic figures, unjustly incarcerated in Western prisons: Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, Arab revolutionary, detained in France since 1984; Léonard Peltier, indigenous activist, imprisoned in the USA since 1976; Mumia Abu Jamal, journalist and political activist, incarcerated in the USA since 1981. These three men embody the resistance of white names in the heart of the Empire, and continue to inspire today's struggles. They also symbolize the condition of non-white men in the West.

This project (particularly the panels and conferences focused on gender) is funded by the RéQEF ou Réseau québécois d'études féministes - Antenne Concordia and Antenne UQAM, as well as other sponsors.
