I found a reddit question on something very similar to symptoms I experience. Years ago I noticed it with a, fairly dramatic, incident with kiwi fruit. Now I'm seeing, not as severe, a reaction with honeydew melon and possibly other fruits a little too. Anyone else experience this at times? Any tips on calming it after a flare-up?

@ca There are actually some apparent results in the literature to the contrary — but this certainly wouldn't be the first study to report a negative correlation between #atopy (including #allergic #rhinitis and #atopic #dermatitis / #eczema) and cancer. I've suffered from those #atopic conditions all my life, and thought of them as the bane of my existence. Then I read one such study sometime around 2015 — and felt like awarding a medal to each individual lymphocyte! (Those are the immune-system cells most directly involved in #atopy.) You see, at age 67, I have zero personal history of cancer, and near zero family history of cancer, even in fairly distant relatives. Before I saw that first article on this subject, it had never occurred to me that those annoying #atopic conditions might be collateral damage from a vigilant and effective patrol against a much worse, and life-threatening, problem.
Imagine feeling… off. Not just a little tired, but a deep, bone-weary exhaustion that settles in. Then, a strange, angry rash starts to appear, especially on skin that’s seen the sun. #dementia #Dermatitis #diarrhea #malnutrition #niacindeficiency #Pellagra #vitaminB3deficiency

Just realised I actually have #dermatitis. It was worst but is dying off I think.
Hot water, holy shit that drives my skin crazy. It makes this burning sensation that is nice at first but then just stings for ages.
I notice it most getting out the shower and washing up.... only on my forearms, hands fingers and wierdly under where a breast would be (i dont have bewbs).
It's just rough and itchy occassionally, not insanely so. I'm just glad I now know what it is.

I'm slightly less itchy this morning, and I'm cautiously optimistic that the corticosteroid cream is working.. I was actually able to sleep properly last night, for the first time since Boxing Day.
I've clued in that I'm experiencing another weird long COVID symptom. Since about February, I've had recurring itchy skin on the side of my left little finger. I had COVID in October. My finger gets so itchy that I've scratched the skin off before. It's often quite raw. Right now, it has a little blister from me scratching at it. I thought I was allergic to something at the gym and started wearing gloves. That helped for a bit, but it came back while I was traveling last month and it won't go away. It's driving me kinda bonkers. Not sure what I can put on it to make it stop itching. when I went to the doctor, he told me it was probably contact dermatitis, but why am I getting it in just that one small spot? At least it's not all over me. #LongCovid #LongCovid #ContactDermatitis #dermatitis #skin

#Formaldehyde And Formaldehyde-Releasing Preservatives
Formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives (#FRPs) are used in many #PersonalCare products, particularly in #shampoos and liquid #BabySoaps.
"These preservatives release small amounts of formaldehyde over time. Since low levels of formaldehyde can cause health concerns-at levels as low as 250 parts per million and even lower levels in sensitized individuals-the slow release of small amounts of formaldehyde are cause for concern. A 2015 study determined that longer storage time and higher temperature increase the amount of formaldehyde released from FRPs and could ultimately lead to more severe health concerns.
"#Quaternium15 is the most sensitizing of these FRPs and is found in #blush, #mascara, #lotion and #shampoo.
"#DMDMHydantoin is found in lotion, #sunscreen and make-up remover and is one of the least sensitizing of the FRPs.
"#ImidazolidinylUrea, #DiazolidinylUrea, and #polyoxymethylene urea, are found in shampoo, conditioner, blush, #EyeShadow, and lotion and are all known human #allergens. #Imidazolidinyl urea is one of the most common #antimicrobial agents used in personal care products and is often combined with #parabens to provide a broad spectrum preservative system. #Diazolidinyl urea releases the most formaldehyde of any FRP.
"Sodium #hydroxymethylglycinate is found in shampoo, moisturizer, conditioner, and lotion. Animal studies have shown that sodium hydroxymethylglycinate has the potential for sensitization and #dermatitis.
"#Bromopol is found in #Nail Polish, #makeup remover, #moisturizer and #BodyWash. Bromopol is considered safe in concentrations less than 0.1%, but cannot be found in formulations with the FRP amine. Mixing bromopol and amines produce #nitrosamines which have been found to penetrate the skin and cause #cancer.
"#Glyoxal is found in conditioner, lotion, nail polish and nail treatment. CIR Expert Panel has declared that glyoxal is a skin allergen.
Regulations
"Banned from use in #cosmetics and #toiletries in #Japan and #Sweden; in the #EU, restricted in personal care products, and labeling is required in products that do contain these chemicals; concentration restrictions in Canada. The EU allows the use of Quaternium-15 up to 0.2% as a preservative in cosmetic products.
How to Avoid?
Read labels and avoid products containing the following ingredients: Formaldehyde, quaternium-15, dimethyl-dimethyl (DMDM) hydantoin, imidazolidinyl urea, diazolidinyl urea, sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol (bromopol). In addition, choose nail products that are labeled formaldehyde-free or “toxic-trio-free” (formaldehyde, toluene and DBP). Skip hair-smoothing products—especially those sold in salons, as salon-based products are exempt from labeling laws. Don’t use expired cosmetic products or store cosmetic products in the sun because this can cause more formaldehyde to be released."

Ubiquity, Hazardous Effects, and Risk Assessment of #Fragrances in #Consumer Products
Published online 2021 Jan 23.
Purpose of review
The main aims of #fragrances are to create pleasing scents or to mask unpleasant odors. We hereby review their main exposure sources, presumed benefits, and unwanted effects, with special attention to #allergic contact #dermatitis (prevalence, regulatory environment, risk assessment methodology, and preventive measures).
Recent findings
"Fragrances elicit positive emotions and presumably have therapeutic benefits related to stress reduction and memory enhancement. However, they also cause detrimental health or environmental effects including contact dermatitis (irritant and/or allergic), non-eczematous contact reactions, photosensitivity, photo-allergy, and immediate contact reactions, which can negatively impact the quality of life.
"Fragrances are the most frequent chemicals causing contact dermatitis. Their main sources are #cosmetics, household products, industrial substances, food #flavorings, oral hygiene products, and topical medications. It is difficult for sensitized patients to avoid contact with fragrances, due to their ubiquity and because #manufacturers are not willing to volunteer information regarding fragrance ingredients.
Summary
The treatment of contact dermatitis relies on allergens avoidance which does not “cure” the disease (sensitization persists for life) but prevents disabling illness. The patient should understand that avoiding perfume means to avoid all scented goods and not just perfumes.
Labeling fragrances is key in primary prevention (by giving the healthy individual the chance to make an informed choice to avoid risky substances), diagnosis (by helping the practitioner to plan and interpret patch tests), secondary prevention, and prognosis (by allowing the sensitized patient to follow the avoidance instructions). However, only 26 fragrances are mandatory to be declared in cosmetics. The vague labeling of other fragrance ingredients as “perfume” or “fragrance” hampers the diagnostic and preventive approaches. Therefore, in our opinion, declaration should be mandatory for all fragrance ingredients as well as straightforward so most consumers can understand it. Moreover, legislation should be improved to prevent inappropriately high exposures by forbidding stronger allergens, restricting maximum concentrations in the finished product or fields of application, delivering information regarding the risks to the general public, and controlling the compliance of manufacturers with the regulations. Besides, manufacturers should share information regarding the composition in the final products and provide physicians with samples of all fragrance chemicals whenever needed for patch test investigations."

Another medical question.
What is this? I get it every so often, only on this finger, in the same place. It’s red, raised, itchy and hurts if knocked. It looks like contact dermatitis, but the randomness is throwing me. I put hydrocortisone and germolene on and after a while it goes.
This is my finger that got blended by a stick blender, probably around 15 years ago.
Kill me. Kill me now.
I had a nice time with my boyfriend last night. I'm not going to get into details in this post, but impostor syndrome regarding my pansexuality and whether I'd desire this boy trotted in my head. He was the first trans man I was intimate with. I'm happy to report that it did not interfere.
However, he developed #dermatitis and had to return home earlier than expected.
:why:
He did not have any known #allergies. I have a cat, but he said he wasn't allergic to cats.
I'm grasping at straws here. Wild speculation:
1. Can HRT give allergies to a #trans person?
2. Can #autism eventually give you allergies? (I'll remind you that my own somatic symptoms evolved over time.)
3. Is it psychological? He looked fine, but I know he has high anxiety.
(BTW, we've eliminated the latex in the condoms we used as a possible allergen.)
Yes, he's going to see an allergist, but I want to get a head start, and I'm a bit skeptical at the ability of random doctors about dealing with trans folks, and #autistic folks. He's both.
😭
