1) Before #RFK came along to spread his particular noisome fear, uncertainty, & doubt (#FUD) -- #Measles was effectively extinct in the #US. None, Nada, Kaput! This was something to be proud of! 👍
2) Unfortunately, the disease was/is NOT extinct from the world at large. In 2023 the #WHO estimated there were 10.3 million new cases. 🙁
3) In the past twenty years, there have been sporadic measles cases in the US, but these were always tied to an unvaccinated person who had recently lived in or traveled from a foreign country. There were NO spontaneous domestic cases.
4) Until the world gets its act together to wipe-out measles, there will always be new sources for the disease. The only thing that has changed is we have let our collective guard down--and measles is just waiting to infect, disable, & and kill our children. ☠️

At the time, if memory serves correctly, Windows XP/2003 were the current OSes then. It wasn't like they were stable or secure. MS poured millions into those ads. 😂

@StarkRG the counterexample to that would be a #Cooperative where the mandate is not to maximize short-term profits, but the interests of shareholders in a sustainable fashion and where there's only 1 voting share per shareholder regardless if they only have the bare minimum in investment or millions parked in it.
Otherwise both pay dividends based off success, have shareholder meetings and have to release their financials as well as being independently audited.
Plus cooperatives unlike stock companies can't be really shorted as they have sometimes slow and long timeframes for divestments with up to 3 years of pre-announcement period between maning the decision to divest and being actually paid out. Similarly membership and thus beibg a shareholder can be restricted.
@raccoon Microsoft merely half-assed #HDDVD with #FUD, so in the end, #Netflix or rather #Streaming won the #HD #FormatWar - just as Microsoft wanted!
So yeah, I doubt #Valve will subsidize the #SteamMachine at all, but sell it at cost knowing that less than 10% will even think going beyond #Steam and less than 1% actually install a different OS…
