Weird fun bug of the evening:
• I have an #Android phone with a broken USB port, so I can only backup files wirelessly. There are various apps for doing this: I use one called #FolderSync, which works well most of the time.
• When my phone fills up, I obviously need to delete files from it. Before doing this, I like to check the backups don't have any corruption by comparing checksums of the files on my phone and in my backup.

Simple trick to automatically back up your #WhatsApp chats to a cloud storage other than Google Drive:

1. In WhatsApp settings, turn off automatic backups.
2. Create an account on @filen (a German cloud service with end-to-end encryption; 10 GB free).
3. Install #FolderSync (a Danish app).
4. Open the app and set up a one-way sync from your local WhatsApp folder (usually /Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Databases or similar) to your remote Filen folder.
5. Choose the sync frequency.

Done!

Auf meinem Android läuft seit Jahren die "normale" Nextcloud App mit DAVx5. Kalender und Foto-Ordner sind alles easy. Ich möchte aber auch meinen meinen Download-Ordner "Automatisch hochladen" bzw. syncronisieren. Da fliegt alles rein, was mehr oder weniger wichtig ist. Leider syncronisiert die App nur Bilder / Video. Warum?
Ich hab dafür zusätzlich Foldersync am laufen.

Warum schmeißt mein FolderSync auf Android eigentlich so oft Fehler beim syncen der Obsidian Vaults von bzw. nach Nextcloud? Meistens sind es Dateien in den .obsidian foldern. Und dabei achte ich schon drauf nicht gleichzeitig mit zwei Geräten auf dem gleichen Vault rumzueiern.

Android has FolderSync. I’m looking for something like that 👍

If you know of a solution… I’m fine with buying an app for a couple of bucks, but I’m not paying a subscription for it…

#FolderSync 愛用しているけど、近頃定時に起動していないような気がする…。なんだろ原因。

@TruthMattersww oh, und Passwörter hab ich in ner kdbx-passwort-datei, die man mit der app keepass bzw keepassx öffnen und bearbeiten kann.
Die Datei hab ich auf handy und pc in nem Ordner, der automatisch mit nextcloud synchronisiert wird.

Für die synchronisation auf Android Geräten funktioniert bei nextcloud leider die eingebaute synchronisation nicht. Deswegen hab ich mir dafür die app foldersync.io geholt.
Die is großartig!
Ich kann dort genau angeben, was, wann, nach welchen Regeln wohin synchronisiert wird. Ist gar nich schwer einzurichten.
Die App kann man im play store bekommen.

You can use Syncthing, FolderSync… even the monster Dropbox… What I use is Filen, but you have to manually download the folder for Android. This is not a big problem for me, though, because I'm mostly a PC user 💻️ I might look for other options in the future, but I'm OK now.
💡 Ah, and not to forget: You could use Logseq's sync if you like it in order to support the project (I personally enjoy it a lot, it helps me very much with learning, and it's not so hard to learn how to use it if what you want is not highly advanced text formatting)

Hat hier schonmal jemand einen rund 70gb großen Ordner von #Nextcloud nach #Android synchronisiert? Der Zielordner liegt außerhalb vom Nextcloud Ordner auf dem Android-System, deshalb fällt die normale Nextcloud-App schonmal raus. Man liest immer wieder von #FolderSync für diese Aufgabe, aber das will bei mir nicht. #Autosync startet den sync immerhin, bricht dann aber nach wenigen Minuten ab und meint es sei fertig.

@afreytes @zstg I am still going to keep it on, since wifi is free and mobiles are fragile, I like as many backups as possible! And 110gb of external storage is pretty useful for a phone with 256gb on board. I'll just hope their #android client gets better or a tool like #foldersync starts to support it (it might already, that's today's task).

My mother-in-law set up the #Nextcloud app to back up photos from her #Android phone. However, no photos were uploaded. I thought she did something wrong, but in fact it was set up correctly, including all permissions. But nothing was even queued for upload. I couldn't make it work either.

I got a recommendation for #FolderSync, but it's freemium and it felt fishy with all the data consent dialogs. Then I went to #FDroid and discovered #RoundSync and wow, it's a great piece of software, clean, lean and does reliably what I want it to do. The sad fact is that @newhinton, app developer, gets 3€/month for it on Liberapay. We really need to get more money into open source apps.

Seems that @nextcloud native app on Android is not particularly useful when it comes to frictionless bidirectional folders/files syncing? 🧐 I'm using (proprietary) #FolderSync on Android for syncing with Nextcloud for now. Let me know if you have better options. #hobbyprojects #googlefree

#Obsidian × #FolderSync で母艦とモバイルの同期する時間自体は１回同期しさえすれば、以降はさほどでもないことがわかってきたけれども。
600MB位まで増やしていったら、モバイル側の起動が耐えられない遅さに（涙)。
もともとその部分はUpNoteに移管はしてたので、モバイル版Obsidianでの検索は諦めるか…、ということでそのフォルダはそもそも同期から除外。
Obsidianはファイルのリネームしても勝手にリンクを貼りなおしてくれるので、フォルダ整理したり、リネームしたりしているのに、双方向同期したら、ファイルが倍増。そらそーだわ。
ということで、ファイルの整理は母艦でちょこちょこしそうなので、デイリーノートのjournals以外は母艦→モバイルの一方向DLとし、日付ファイルしかないjournalsは双方向同期の設定にした。モバイルでの記載はデイリーノートだけにして、タグなり、リンクなり入れとけば、簡単に拾えるからまぁいいか、という気分に。

Noch unentschieden, ob ich Fotos vom Android-Handy per automatischem Upload über die #Nextcloud App nur backupen soll oder besser mit #FolderSync als zusätzlicher App den Foto-Ordner auf dem Handy mit der Cloud synchronisieren soll. Hat beides Vor- und Nachteile. Hat hier jemand Erfahrung mit beiden Optionen und kann etwas raten?

Y creo que ya estaría. Puntualizar varias cosas:

- Soy músico, tengo el perfil técnico de una ardilla. Coged lo que os digo con pinzas e investigad lo que dice gente que sabe mucho más.

- Hay sistemas como pcloud (xd) y otros cacharros de nube que hacen más menos esto, pero no controlas tanto el proceso y, sobre todo, no son gratis. Este sí lo es xd2
