What would you consider the single most sophisticated piece of software ever written for the C64?

I'm on the fence between GEOS and the Newcomer RPG. The former is a whole OS but the latter uses effectively all of the C64's memory and its 14 disks long!

Managed to work out how to get into this #Tandy Z-PDA "Zoomer". I haven't found any photos of the insides of this thing online yet.

Unfortunately this one seems to have had some hidden battery leakage, but it seems to be restricted to the speaker and wires for the battery. Everything else looks in good condition.

It can take an external PSU, but I can't find any details on it (voltage, polarity).

Also, it runs #GEOS.

1/2 I was talking to @howtophil about GEOS and decided that I would spin up a VM to run it. Let me tell you what I learned. I used Qemu and started with FreeDOS (FD14 is really slick!) but GEOS20 would error out on launch. Something to do with memory/files/buffers but none of my fiddling would get it to work. I thought it might have something to do with memory management so I spun up a generic MSDOS6 VM...

@IPXFong @davefischer #GEOS 2.0 runs on top of #FreeDOS, but you have to modify the geos.ini file

After the Geoworks install finishes, edit geos.ini (in c:\geos20) and set

fs = os2.geo

Then it'll start up fine when you run geos.bat

This also makes it work in #DosBox

Played around a little bit with #numpy and #matplotlib in #python to create a #cyberpunk #voxelart avatar featuring a #c64 #geos disk icon. #procrastination

IMHO they peaked with Dos 6.6

Even the graphics environment operating system GEOS under C64 in 8bits, works much more efficient than any Windows flavor

Yay, finally managed to trash my #Python #jupyter environments again. I wanted to reinstall my #dependencies anyway … You are not supposed to mix #conda / #mamba envs with #pip, and #proj / #geos are also fancy candidates, but this is new: “No module named attrs”
