I missed the memo when became , but I feel it doesn't add clarity to the differences between medical personnel. My first suspicion was that the renaming was punishment for last year's strikes, but apparently not. bma.org.uk/news-and-opinion/ju

Untitled photo, possibly related to: Street corner, Williamette Valley. Small town during hop season. Independence, Polk County, Oregon

The image is a black and white photograph capturing an urban street scene from the mid-20th century. In the foreground, there's a vintage car parked on the right side of the frame with prominent features like chrome details and rounded bodywork indicative of automobiles manufactured in the 1930s or '40s.

The backdrop is occupied by various commercial establishments including a theater marquee reading "WELCOME HOP-PICKERS" along with other signs for services such as real estate, drug store, confectionery fountain, health service, and soda. The architecture of the buildings suggests an era when brick structures were prevalent in urban planning.

The signage also indicates local businesses like Cravens Drug Store and Coca-Cola advertising a "Health Service," hinting at a community centered around small business enterprises catering to daily needs. People can be seen walking on the sidewalk, suggesting pedestrian activity typical for such locales during that period.

Overall, this image portrays everyday life in what appears to be an American town with emphasis on local commerce and public gatherings highlighted by the mention of hop pickers, which is a reference to economic activities like hops agriculture common around certain regions. The photo conveys a sense of place characterized by its mix of architectural styles, business signage, and community interaction.

Just a reminder to anyone in the UK government who may happen to come across this. Pay the nurses and doctors anything they want.
When we need them, they’re there. Unlike the politicians who permanently seem to let us down.

Q. why does the Govt. want the GMC to also regulate physician associates & anaesthesia associates?

The BMA thinks this will 'muddy the waters' on regulation of the #healthservice & will lead to #patient confusion about whether they have *actually* seen #doctors.

But, perhaps the key thing to ask is what are the #Tories trying to achieve?

As elsewhere they are trying to normalise the de-professionalisation of staff & dilute skills... in this case, to further damage the NHS's reputation!

The #NHScrisis has many elements, and of course interacts with other more general crises across the UK... so its not surprise that the lack of #investment in the #infrastructure of the #English #healthservice (including a lack of available funds for maintenance) is leading to further deterioration in the service to #patients.

That we're here us undeniable, that the answer is more involvement of the private sector, seems doubtful at best & dangerous at worst!

The #NHScrisis takes many forms... and #toxic management & staff relations is one (more).

In a defunded, stressed #healthservice, with staff burning out & over-worked (due to unfilled jobs), we can expect inter-personal relations to become strained (to say the least).

In this case, a #female #doctor was driven to take her own life, triggered by a delay in removing herself from a toxic work environment.

Whatever the local issues, behind this is (still) #tory wrecking!

So the Q. for #NHS patients as the #healthservice seeks to transform the possibility for health data analysis is:

Do you trust any of those involved with your private #health data?

And if enough of us don't & opt-out then the whole project will continue with the skewed data analysis that has become apparent in #healthcare.

But if do trust the those involved, recent experience suggest that #privacy often ends up being violated by external forces...

a conundrum?

> ... the #cholera epidemic of 2008-2009 in South Africa was a disease of race. People of colour.. the prime victims.. cholera in South Africa has had a strong association with #RaceAndClass, as .. in other countries.. Also relevant is.. that in #SouthAfrica only 20 per cent of the population have access to exclusive private medical health services, while the majority of the country’s residents have to rely on an overworked and underfunded public #HealthService.

you'll be unsurprised to know that while the #BMA is willing to go to ACAS for mediated pay talks, #SteveBarclay (through 'friends') as said there's an offer on the table, take it or leave it...

One can only conclude that the #Health Secretary thinks by paying hard ball he can 'break' the #Doctors... even if in the short-term he may be proved right, in the longer term, this intransigence will have a major impact on Doctors' morale & recruitment.

One more #Tory wrecking the #healthservice!!

This is so sad. How are we going to reverse ourselves out of this? No one has any answers, and in the meantime the public's health deteriorates! 😔

More evidence of the effect of the #Tories defunding of the #NHS:

we can agree that its hard to maintain a functioning #healthservice if the buildings & equipment are in bad repair or failing.

One way to measure that is the expected cost(s) of meeting current required repairs.

Those maintenance needs that expose the NHS to low risk have actually remained stable while those that offer higher risk of problems have expended.

It will take years & billions of £ to repair the wreckers' work

Chart: The costs of brining the NHS estate up to standard is at a record high. Costs to eradicate maintenance backlog in 2021 prices (£bn).

Chart shows rise in overall projected costs from around £5bn in 2010 ro around £10bn 2021/22 - with low risk issues remaining relatively stable but big rises in moderate, significant & high risk work needed

@junesim63

yes, it all sounds familiar from the #healthservice doesn't it.... the #Tories small-state 'philosophy' (although its more like a prejudice to be frank) which underpins their agressive defunding of the #publicsector while syphoning off money to their chums is having widespread real wild consequences.... the difficulty is the media often don't want to put 2 + 2 to get 4!

@KimSJ @Davidjackson

Agreed; starving a model of funding does not provide evidence of the need for reform, ir provides evidence that you cannot run an under-funded #healthservice!
