Looooooooong overdue but now that #immich is stable I feel confident enough in it as a long term solution that I am finally doing it. I am deleting everything in Google Photos today. Long overdue.
Also, the deleting process stinks. You have to do it manually from the webUI bit by bit. Anti-user behavior. I guess that shouldn't be a surprise. #selfhosting
Lösung: sidecarData gehört bei python request in die files-Variable, nicht data.
#immich-Frage: wenn ich bei "POST /assets" als sidecarData den Inhalt der xmp-Datei übergebe (python: data['sidecarData']=open(file, 'rb') oder ….read()), dann sehe ich nichts davon am Serverlog (bei log settings verbose), und die Sidecar-Daten sind nachher auch nicht dabei. Was offensichtliches übersehe ich da? (laut https://api.immich.app/endpoints/assets/uploadAsset s…)
I've been really enjoying working with a VPS I set up through Hetzner.
My self-hosting journey so far has been:
* Pikapods
* VPS through Hetzner, so far for personal website and a few lighter services (FreshRSS)
Immich (for photos) is still on Pikapods.
I'm thinking about using an old Mac Mini I have lying around unused as a home server, and moving Immich and most other services there, keeping the website via VPS.
Has anyone repurposed a Mac Mini as a home server? This is new territory for me. I'd happily hear any advice/considerations.

I don’t connect my LG OLED to my network. I prefer to use a separate media box. This obviously incurs cost and some people can’t/wont pay. But even a cheap (2nd hand) #RPi can work.

I just realized I don't even need to upload files to Immich, I can just use opencloud and set it as a external storage drive.
Amazing.
Har nogen af jer erfaring med #immich eller #photoprism? Planlægger at sætte en af delene op for mig selv, men i særdeleshed mine forældre. De har ekstremt mange billeder spredt ud på en håndfuld computere, plus mobiler og cloud-services. Photoprism virker på en måde mest moden og hvis jeg forstår det ret så kan den lave et netværksdrev som man bare kan dumpe sine billeder i, så bliver de selv placeret rigtigt. Men har læst at immich har langt bedre ansigtsgenkendelse...

I love BTRFS because I can copy all my NextCloud server files to OpenCloud)/@?$ lock my NextCloud quota (to prevent modifications / uploads).
And now I have 0 wasted space, data available from both instances (for now, as I have to slowly delete NextCloud).
After this, I'll begin a migration to using Immich, which I don't quite like for being type script, but its more self hosting friendly compared to the nonnegotiable E2EE of Ente.
On a side note I finally seen my max read of my raid array, 700 MBps. Fancy!
Wie bekommt man eigentlich bei #immich die ganzen #Dubletten bei den #Personen weg, ohne alles neu generieren lassen zu müssen, so dass dann auch die Namen alle weg sind? Und wo kommen die überhaupt alle her? Die Fotos sind definitiv nicht doppelt.

Ich habe #ChatGPT befragt: "Werden bei #immich bei der #Gesichtsidentifizierung bei zurücksetzen nur die #Personen ohne Namen zurückgesetzt oder alle?"
Die Antwort war leider nicht zufriedenstellend 😢 Schade, ich dachte es wäre vielleicht ein Workaround, bei falsch zusammengefügten Gesichtern einfach den Namen zu löschen.
