Follow accounts you enjoy. There's no algorithm here artificially pushing things into your feed-- or you into theirs-- so your best way to prune your feed and to be seen by others is to follow people and use hashtags.

Avoid irrelevant, trending hashtags. These only irritate people.

Make sure to use #AltText whenever possible. There are visually impaired folks here, and accounts who will not RT anything without AltText.

Not many folks will RT links to #Xitter. Avoid them for better responses.

Accounts that end in "a.gup.pe" are groups & have "guppy" avatars.

Time for an #introductiontoot, I guess.

I've been an #InfoSec professional for a bit now - too long for it being good for my mental health, some might say, but I still enjoy every second of it.

From time to time, albeit far too infrequently, I write stuff for my website (https://ti-kallisti.com).

I have one Alt to try out Akkoma (@ti-kallisti) and another one for offtopic stuff and shitposts (@Bartmoss_h4x0r).
I also wrote a little bot, the output of which is basically what would happen if an Adeptus Mechanicus priest became a Red-Teamer (@rubricatus_turma).

When I'm not hacking stuff I like to play video games, especially RPGs. For those I even like to go analog, being a forever GM for Cyberpunk RED and playing VtM from time to time.

I would like to say that I like reading, but I've neglected that hobby a bit these past few years. Maybe 2025 will change that.

I guess that's all of the important stuff out of the way. If there's something else you wanna know, feel free to ask.

* who you follow
* what you RT
* what hashtags you use and follow

It can take a while to build a following, but your feed will be more positive than on other platforms, with NO ads.

I always recommend following @feditips@mstdn.social and @feditips@a.gup.pe to discover all kinds of great things you can do in #Mastodon.

You will get more traffic if you follow accounts that you enjoy and if you use hashtags.

Hashtags are powerful here. Because there's no algorithm here shoving trolls and ads in your feed, the best way to get your toots noticed by others is to use hashtags.

You can even follow hashtags.

And you can edit posts! You might want to edit your toot to include hashtags like:

I’m a Software Engineer, I get paid for one of my hobbies and work on Open Source Software, which is amazing and an awesome privilege.
I’m also a sometime woodworker, foodie and wannabe chef, occasional photographer, perpetual insomniac, and serial hobbyist that loves learning new skills.
I spend most of my time working at being the best human and ally I can be. I’m pro-inclusion, anti-discrimination, and pro-love in all its forms.

Someone suggested using the same avi from Twitter but I had 2 and they're old.

A long time ago (late 2007? early 2008?) I started with @hci as my account but switched to @WichitaCindy. I sold the original account a few years ago to a gamer and now it's suspended. 🤷🏼‍♀️ The reasons for @Cindy4KS are uninteresting now, but when I made @WichitaCindy private in 2021, it became more useful.

It's been a wild ride. I'm still tweeting. May start cross-posting.
