I know. These photos are not great looking, but I had to share the story.
Turns out the trains do not run 24/7 and I did not have a way to make it to the Narita airport from my hostel in time since it was an early flight. So, I booked a last minute hostel near the airport.
This was just in someone's house in a somewhat rural part of Japan. The person who runs the hostel picked me up from the airport and to paint the picture, the car looked like is was about to breakdown on the way.
The person was very quiet, so I tried to start a conversation with him. I asked him, "Do you like running a hostel?" He just responded, "No."
I didn't speak to him for the rest of the ride. Then when I was sitting in the living room, two Korean guys showed up and he started arguing with them about showing up a day early. They only spoke Korean and he didn't. I helped them with google translate. It was weird since there were spaces for them to sleep and I was the only one there other than the owner.
It was freezing at night and the heater looked like it should not be used inside, but I still was recovering from a fever and had a bad cough, so I just rolled the dice and slept there with it.
I do have a good memory of the time as I got to ride a bike down the road to a local store to get something to eat. I just got some ramen.
