At least one of the officers on board the Mary Rose owned a pewter chamber pot, presumably because he didn't want to make his way to the heads when nature called.

Though looking at the state of it, you have to wonder what he was drinking!

Skeletal remains from Mary Rose shipwreck reveal insights on aging and handedness effects on collarbones

Recent research on skeletal remains from the Mary Rose, a Tudor warship under King Henry VIII, has uncovered fascinating insights into how bone chemistry varies with handedness and age, potentially advancing modern medical science.

This study involved examining clavicle bones from twelve male crew members aged 13 to 40. Using a non-destructive technique called Raman spectroscopy, researchers found that the chemistry of the clavicles changed in ways that may reveal new aspects of lifestyle and physical strain endured by the sailors of that era. The study’s core findings reveal that clavicle bone composition varies according to age and handedness, with right-handedness showing a marked influence on bone chemistry...

The wreck of a 15th Century ship was found in the mud of #Newport's River #Usk in 2002 and experts believe it is as significant a find as the #MaryRose.

Now researchers have found timbers from the hull of the former wine-trading vessel were made from oak trees that were felled in the winter of 1457-58.

Why was the ship called Mary Rose? Some say Mary might have been a reference to the Virgin Mary, but it's just as likely it was named after Henry VIII's sister. The Rose part is probably from the Tudor Rose.

One of the most famous shipwrecks in the world is the Mary Rose, the flagship of King Henry VIII. On 19 July 1545 she led the fleet against a French invasion but was swamped with water through the lower gun decks and sank in the Solent. About 700 men were lost.

It is now 21 years since the passing of the #National #Heritage #Act 2002 which saw responsibility for #maritime #archaeology pass into the hands of #English %Heritage. Ata mārie. Some roadside beauty to start the day. Not my rose, but my photo. Beautiful, pink, blousy David Austin rose. It smells as good as it looks. Maybe “Mary Rose” variety?

A beautiful, old fashioned, large pink English Rose with a deep pink centre fading to light pink. A loose, cabbage as opposed to a compact style.
