This is the PC rebuild I was working on when I pulled my back last week. My main desktop since getting the case eight years ago and upgraded a few times over the years. Most recent was getting a motherboard that actually worked for the 9800X3D and all of the things I had connected. I mainly took it all apart to rewire everything since it was finally stable, and after cleaning it all up and reorganizing things, it is now good enough to leave alone for several years.

Really the only new things are the CPU cooler and fans because I sold some used parts to a friend. Now it's all color matched correctly and looks pristine. A very heavy machine but I pushed through the back pain to complete it. Worth it lol

Today’s achievement - my custom-built server got much cooler because I replaced this SAS controller from hell with a tiny PCI-E to 2 х SATA III adapter with a 9125 chip.
Previously, I was convinced by #TrueNAS forums and Stack Overflow that 9125-based controllers wouldn’t work for TrueNAS. It may be true for TrueNAS, but it worked well with #Proxmox.

4 HDDs and 2 SSDs. 64 GB of RAM and 12-core Intel i5.

One thing I don’t like is a PCIe SAS controller in the bottom that is huge and gets very hot. It’s there because the motherboard had only 4 SATA ports. I want to replace that controller with something smaller and cooler.

Does anyone know if this would work: building a mega beefy pc running Linux, and use it for gaming (including #VR), but also use it for work running a VM to run Windows?

(I need Windows for work, unfortunately, as I use Excel for massive financial model building.)
