The #pear #tree is in eco mode this year (these are all the blossoms we got 😂), whereas the #Mirabelle #plum tree goes all out. 🎇
Oh, and our #jostaberry bush is in bloom too! I only got it in autumn from my parents' garden so I didn't know what to expect. For those of you who don't know this berry, it's a cross between gooseberry and black currant. In German we call it #Jochelbeere (that's the name I would use) or #Jostabeere (*Jo*hannisbeere + *Sta*chelbeere - the German names of the "parent" fruits). It tastes just like you would expect and the bushes are thornless

Visited #DrummondCastle again this weekend, gardens looking glorious - shame about the rain.

Was pleased to see they’ve updated the brochure map to list the heritage #AppleTree varieties - very few have legible labels on the trees. There are two sets, mostly older trees against the walled garden wall, and mostly new plantings free standing lower down the slope.

They need to do their small #PearTree collection next..

De bloesem van de Gieser Wildeman stoofpeer in de tuin is op haar mooist. De bladeren zijn wel erg gekruld maar dat is normaal. Ik dacht vroeger dat het een Duitse peer was maar nee, het ras is gekweekt in 1850 door meneer Wildeman uit Gorinchem.

I do like watching squirrel acrobatics in the sycamore and lyme trees at the bottom of the garden, but now they've raided both the pear trees again so another years crop gone. One tree has been completely stripped and another with about 10 pears left. 🙁
I've painted a band of cribbox (grease with chilli) around the tree trunk which worked for a while but they've started ignoring it. Anyone have any other ideas to keep them off my pears?
