A large chunky bird with deep orange upper parts that match a semicircular fan of deep orange crown feathers sits on a perch in an area of patchy green forest to allow a shaft of sunlight through to light the birb's headdress from behind-- creating a corona of golden sunlight around the head but not the body. Birb is turned in profile so that the alert beady eye gazes at the viewer. Yet, oddly, because of the poofed-out head and facial feathers, he seems to have no beak. The photo shows the intricate vein structure of the leaf, appearing almost like a translucent window mosaic in different shades of orange-brown The uneven surface of the leaf together with a shallow depth of field makes it weave in and out of focus throughout the image.

In contrast, the rest of the plant, that forms a rough diagonal down and right, is in deep shadow, almost black with only the edges lit up by the backlight. The background of the photo is entirely out of focus and mostly a cool blue shade, darkest at the lower left, becoming lighter toward the upper right.

A close up photograph of a small wave, just breaking. The breaking wave takes up the bottom third of the photo and is in sharp focus. It is taken with a short shutter speed and water droplets can be seen spraying all over the image. Sunlight refracts through the crest of the wave. Beyond the wave are some blurry reeds and at the top, a bit of clear sky. The photograph goes entirely in blue and yellow colours.
