I've been dealing with a database that randomly go slow over the last days. I couldn't figure it out, but I suspected that it was a fundamental misconfiguration as the load wasn't super high and not table was super big (16mil rows isn't all that much). Turns out it was the bloody AWS storage that ran out of IOPS. The graph showed it, in fact multiple graphs did show it, but you sometimes just don't see stuff. 🙈
