🚨 New Video: Stop Memorizing Passwords (And Stop Using LastPass)

If you can remember your password, it is weak.

Your brain defaults to patterns, and hackers know them. Relying on memory means you are already compromised, you just haven't been notified yet.

Storing keys in your browser is a sticky note on your monitor. And with closed-source managers like 1Password, you are just trusting their marketing team not to get breached. Marketing budgets don't stop hackers.

Today we fix your digital hygiene. We look at FOSS solutions that respect your freedom, like Proton Pass for convenience and KeePassXC for total sovereignty.

100% human made. #NoAI :NoAI:

#Protonpass
Ein Traum.
Sowas wird zwar nicht empfohlen, aber ich schätze es auch.

Stop memorizing your passwords. Seriously.

Your brain is designed for patterns, not encryption. If you can remember your password, it is weak.

In the next video, we are fixing your digital hygiene. No closed source "just trust me, bro" apps. No browser saving. FOSS digital sovereignty.

Which side are you on right now?

anyone else have issues with #ProtonPass information vanishing lately?

(support ticket pending but curious)

2026-02-10

There is much to like about the but it not cooperating with my password manager ( ) is kind of a dealbreaker. It seems to have been an issue for a while for a lot of users. I guess I will keep using it along with for a while to give it a fair shake, but they really need to fix this.

Besides #ProtonPass what other #PasswordManagers are good ?

I'd missed that #Proton's #ProtonPass had made a CLI available a couple of months ago ... proton.me/blog/proton-pass-cli

TIL that proton pass now has a new cli application, super useful for things like API keys in dotfiles. It also has a built in ssh agent by the looks of things

Proton is everywhere, but not on Mastodon! They left it.
Except for Telegram, exclusively on US platforms!
Why is that?
Instead of constantly introducing new services, they should reconsider their media presence and support channels.
It isn't that hard to support a Mastodon channel or to built an Open Source support community.

Never forget:
Every support request (even mails their support) at Proton goes through US channels—none of which are E2EE.
I don't understand the connection to privacy here. There is still 'much' room for improvement.

I would like to see all content creators take up this topic as well.

@guiambrosio

Uso 2,

I am raising $50 to pick up a pair of open-source security keys (SoloKeys or Nitrokey). I'd love to do a review or series about these!

The Mission: Kill off SMS based 2FA and move to hardware backed FIDO2 for my desktop and Proxmox logins. It is time to move my security away from a SIM card and into my own hands.

Testing Password Managers: Moving on from KeePassXC + Syncthing (it has served me well but can be fickle) to try out Proton Pass, which also supports hardware keys. I also had good experiences from Bitwarden and VaultWarden.

Which do you prefer for Linux? :gnu: :tux:

I would greatly appreciate any support of the goal here: ko-fi.com/terminaltilt/goal?g=0

I also have a LibrePay (which is much more privacy respecting) here: liberapay.com/terminaltilt/don

@DarioZanette @filippodb @DigiDavidex @77nn se possibile, coglierei anche l'occasione per iniziare a usare un password manager :) Magari #vaultwarden selfhostato dai @devol o #protonpass

The recent, somewhat stupid, issue in the 1Password extension made me take a look at Proton Pass. I really like that it's a European provider, with its own servers (no AWS 🎉), and sort of a not-for-profit background. But unfortunately it can't quite replace 1Password for me (yet?).

Wrote a blog post about what I'm missing: swsnr.de/proton-pass-as-1passw

So, I haven’t used my #Linux machine in roughly a year.
I booted it up and remembered my encryption password. 👍
But I can’t remember my login password. 👎Apparently I was not smart enough to save this in my #Bitwarden or #ProtonPass #passwordmanager 🙄
Did by chance save it in my old OneNote password notebook? Maybe. But I also can’t remember that password and also didn’t save that one in a pw manager

@nixCraft and even for folks who need a little less of a barrier than the Keepass* softwares, there are online cloud solutions like Proton Pass that make password managers more *accessible* to non-techy folks
