I was surprised/ excited the other day to find Western (Blue) Clematis growing a stone's throw from my fence, on the farm! I've seen it a couple of times before, but never right here- weird that I haven't spotted it till now, when it has clearly been there a few years- of course of out flower it would blend in with surrounding vegetation..

This view: looking from slightly below a single flower on a vine which has climbed up a couple of metres. Background is blurred, with several spots of light between blurred foliage turned to light circles by the camera lens.
A flower composed of 4 rather long narrow petal-like sepals (often called tepals) joined at the base, quite widely separated by the pointed tips. They are a light to medium violet colour with very 4-5 fine slightly darker violet veins running from base to tip. The flower faces downward, so those flaring sepals make a sort of very loose bell shape, with a dense tight cluster of white gold green tipped sexy bits underneath in the centre. Each flower is held on a slender stem which arches out and away from the vines which are green on new growth, turning brown on older parts. This view: looking at an aspen poplar sucker which is a couple of metres, a little over 6 feet tall, mostly bare of leaves on its rather thin trunk, branched and leafy only in the top quarter or so. A vine of the Clematis has climbed this trunk and spread out through its leafy canopy, with 4 flowers scattered among the leaves. This is in focus while the background of various suckers/saplings and poplars small to medium and some spruce, is blurred. Foliage is still spring bright. This view: wet green foliage clambering through spruce branches, all leaflets simple.
Leaves are variable- random or depending on age of plant/stem? They emerge bronzy green and almost quilted looking, developing a lighter green. They are composed of 3 leaflets which may be simple pointed heart shaped or more irregular with variable lobes. This view: a short section of vine, near ground level close to a tree trunk with moss and lichen, rising from leaf litter, some dry grass stems and a few bits of other green leaves. It ends in a single downward facing flower, which we see from above. Everything is rain wet.

2-Two videos- links are to YouTube, first a short showing the finished altar + some wildflowers in situ + spring woodland, + me having a bit of coffee beside the altar to toast my Mom and her twin sister.
Then a longer one showing the meditative collecting of flowers + laying of the altar + extra views of #garden #Wildflowers + #landscape + again, those moments with coffee! #Spectra #Peertube links next

Part of the altar. Pale yellow Oxlip Primrose, deep gold Marsh Marigold and Corydalis, palest pink Nanking Cherry flowers and white Anemone along with several kinds of foliage in shades of green, purple tinged and bronze surround two bird figurines. There is a shiny porcelain penguin in featureless white, and a smaller translucent glass owl with feather shapes molded in the glass and light blue eyes. Mom collected penguin items for years, and Aunt D. collected owls so these are meant to represent the two sisters, but also to suggest Bird Goddess, one of the most ancient deities and connected to the Baltic/Latvian Great Mother (Mara or even Ragana! see several of my blog posts for more on that theme, link in bio)Detail of altar of wild and garden flowers and foliage, laid on a weathered wooden bench. In this view we see a couple of low clear glass jars and part of an earthenware pot. The centre jar holds blue Scilla/Squill, violet Hepatica and white Anemone along with the green foliage of the Anemone and small springs of Amelanchier/Saskatoon with unopened buds. Behind we see more foliage including the intense coppery emerging leaves of native Viburnum. Lower right is a blurred bit of golden Corydalis.
UV Maggie (2);

Another one of Maggie, in ultraviolet, and again using focus-stacking to help maximize the sharpness (but this sharpness would be taken away from noise-cleaning later). Another crop here as well, and what annoys me the most if the far left leaf which I was going to remove but totally forgot!
In this once, I decided to increase the saturation a bit to enhance the blues, but probably the yellow tint at the center is not quite clear because of the angle or the movement of the successive frames and merging them into one; not sure 🤷🏻‍♂️

Snowshoe #Hares can be common here, though I think we've been in a low point in their population cycle the last couple of years. Even when abundant they are elusive, so it's always a treat to see one + get pictures/video.
This one popped out when I was in a willow thicket photographing catkins. Special visitor sent by #GreatMother for #MayDay ? pics + YouTube link, #Spectra to follow

Looking through some blurred dry grass and thin willow stems, we have a partial view of a snowshoe hare. It is standing in an alert ready to flee pose which means more or less erect on all fours, body stretched full length horizontally. We see it side on, head facing right, its ears- smaller than those of some hares are straight up, and from this angle its eye looks black and shiny. It is mostly but not fully changed from white winter fur to summer grey-brown. Its back is a reddish brown, with some white showing underneath and I think the face may yet get a bit darker. White inside ears and on feet may remain. Under and behind is more grass, mostly winter dry, partly grazed partly flattened, then we see the bottom of one weathered grey fence post and shadows of a wooded area farther back.Same view nearly, but less obstructed, we can see most of the hare now, which is now sitting, facing away toward the fence, maybe only 1/8 turn of one eye toward the viewer but ears definitely angled back It is mostly but not fully changed from white winter fur to summer grey-brown. Its back is a reddish brown, with some white showing underneath and I think the face may yet get a bit darker. White inside ears and on feet may remain. Under and behind is more grass, mostly winter dry, partly grazed partly flattened, then we see the bottom half of one weathered grey fence post and shadows of a wooded area farther back.

@plants #FlowersOnFriday the first #wildflowers of the year (not counting the poplar + willow catkins which were earlier) appeared over the last 10 days with more things daily as we've had warm days into 20sC/ over 70F (average is 15C/59F and we've had cooler days as well +some nights near /below freezing).
Last week I saw the first violets. Pics here + Youtube link, #Spectra #Peertube link to follow

Emerging from short grass a mix of dried and green,in even dull light, is a small violet plant. There are many leaves, heart shaped but still partly rolled up, and with gently toothed edges. There are a few green, violet tinged narrow buds, and one open violet coloured flower to lower right.
Typical Viola flower composed of five petals, two upper, one on each side below and and one in the lower centre. The centre one has guidelines and bristly hairs on the sides where the petals come together to form a tube. This central petal is elongated beyond the face of the flower to form a spur out the back.Emerging from short grass a mix of dried and green, is a small violet plant. The bright flowers and parts of the grass and debris catching the sun contrast with dark shadows near the soil. There are many leaves, heart shaped but still partly rolled up, and with gently toothed edges. Half a dozen scattered violet coloured flowers rise slightly above the leaves.

In addition there are some small native plants- tiny wild strawberry plants (none flowering in this view, but there were a couple of flowers) and early blue violet some with a few flowers, some just in bud. In lower left you can see part of my rubber boot clad left foot, the boot is a dull green, greyed with dust, with a light tan sole. This boot shows scale of thew plants: one of the violet plants is about half a foot from the boot, and whole plant with many emerging leaves and a couple of flowers is only about the size of the boot's toe area.

With months of more or less cold weather and snow on the ground, and the path from her porch being snow, ice, water, mud, at various times/combinations, Pearly hasn't been outside much. On milder days she has sat on the porch, and a few times has ventured just below, but no 'excursions'.

The Fourier Transform is a mathematical operation that transforms a function of time (or space) into a function of frequency. It decomposes a complex signal into its constituent sinusoidal components, each with a specific frequency, amplitude, and phase. This is particularly useful in many fields, such as signal processing, physics, and engineering, because it allows for analysing the frequency characteristics of signals. The Fourier Transform provides a bridge between the time and frequency domains, enabling the analysis and manipulation of signals in more intuitive and computationally efficient ways. The result of applying a Fourier Transform is often represented as a spectrum, showing how much of each frequency is present in the original signal.

\[\Large\boxed{\boxed{\widehat{f}(\xi) = \int_{-\infty}^{\infty} f(x)\ e^{-i 2\pi \xi x}\,\mathrm dx, \quad \forall\xi \in \mathbb{R}.}}\]

Inverse Fourier Transform:
\[\Large\boxed{\boxed{ f(x) = \int_{-\infty}^{\infty} \widehat f(\xi)\ e^{i 2 \pi \xi x}\,\mathrm d\xi,\quad \forall x \in \mathbb R.}}\]

The equation allows us to listen to mp3s today. Digital Music Couldn’t Exist Without the Fourier Transform: bit.ly/22kbNfi
