I was meant to be installing an observatory dome at Perth Observatory… but somewhere along the way, I stumbled into Southern Cross, Western Australia — a tiny outback town where every street is named after a star.

Like, actual stars. You’ve got Sirius Street, Betelgeuse Boulevard, Vega Terrace… I thought I was in a galaxy brain fever dream. 😅

The Robotech Masters' Bioroid soldier mecha is definitely one of my all-time favorite anime mecha designs.

There's that humanoid organic element to it. I love how the pilot floats inside like a fetus, cybernetically controlling it.

And flight sleds too!

Okay, so this is the #CarinaNebula or #EtaCarinaNebula ( #NGC3372). A stunning, bright nebula near the #SouthernCross. It’s HUGE — larger and brighter than the Orion Nebula but doesn’t get quite as much attention because it’s most visible in the southern hemisphere.

My favourite region is in the bottom right — looks like a ribbon, and it’s beautiful.

This is a 9-panel #Mosaic taken using a #SkyWatcher #ED80 telescope in Ha and Sii, and stitched together with #PixInsight.

Total exposure time is something like 40+ hours.

The carina nebula is centred in the image, and shown in shades of red and white against the near-black background of the night sky. The top part of the nebula is shaped almost like a (non-anatomical) heart, with a larger lobe on the right side. A darker portion of the nebula, shaped like a ‘V’ appears to divide this upper region from the lower region. The lower region could be described loosely as having three messy lobes pointing down. Other nebulous regions surround the main body of the nebula. In the bottom right corner is my favourite, a part that looks like a ribbon, or the edge of a ruffle or drill on a red flamenco dress.
