Aw, https://masto-fe.superseriousbusiness.org doesn't support multiple accounts, it seems.

I'd love to have tried it with `snac` ;)

OH WAIT! I can use firef— #LibreWolf containers!

Yeah, no. Masto-fe does *not* like snac. XD
The home feed won't load, and it shows 404 errors. ;)

A productive afternoon/evening in the #8bit world. Switched from coding natively on the #mega65 to setting up a cross platform development environment for #basic.

Then back to creating more #medieval #runes as a character set. Half way done but I need to revisit some. It's hard to make them accurate with blocks and few options for multiple diagonal lines.

Been rather fun writing hexadecimal letters in runes.

I just had a delightfully #TotallyNormalComputing thought:

I have a USB ZIP drive, and a few 100MB ZIP disks. It just presents itself as USB mass storage.
My car's retrofitted stereo can play music off USB drives, and because it replaced the car's factory dual slot head unit, I have a storage compartment right above the stereo.

I could probably make myself some delightfully blursed "ZIP mix disks" and use those in my car instead of connecting my modern phone to it via Bluetooth. 🤭

Fantastic! #TotallyNormalComputing

Booting #MacOS9 Installer from USB, and without even touching #OpenFirmware. I really like the community for this kind of service!

'Mac OS 9.2.2 "boot kit" for booting your G3/G4 from an USB stick' by that-ben on Macintosh Repository just works out of the box! On a #powerpc #G3 #ibook with USB1.

And it was kinda fast to boot and install too. My #Powerbook got some company now!.

Bought myself a #G3 laptop (#ibook 600MHz). Wanted something to run both #MacOS9 and OSX 10.1 #puma again.

Target Disk Mode to my #Powerbook 12" works perfectly but apparently booting the macos9 installer isn't as easy as osx. How do I get #macos installer to boot from a local drive, don't know.

And the CD Drive doesn't work (and it seems my trusty old Powerbook can't calibrate the laser to burn disks any more either)

Spending an evening with an old computer isn't always fun. It can be hours and hours of installations, downloads and just waiting for stuff to happen.

My 2010 #MacbookAir needed partition resizing (for Haiku, fingers crossed) and then #OpenCoreLegacyPatcher to install #macOS monterey
Avoiding newer macos because of non existing USB1.1 for touchpad/keyboard.

And then Appstore only lets me download latest and not compatible Xcode. Always something...

Getting closer to a Mini ITX RISC-V Haiku Desktop with these new boards. Will definitely buy a RISC-V board "soon".

Just want to be sure I buy one that will work with #Haiku so will probably need to wait for a bit more mature platform.

So for now I will continue to use #HaikuOS on my old Intel 9700k Linux Gaming PC as a secondary OS. Works great!

9600 baud is a very satisfying speed for a terminal. It's not obnoxiously slow, but it is noticeably clacky/chunky.

Also, first adventure in this install process: coreboot/SeaBIOS sets ttyS0 to 115200 8N1, and then DragonFlyBSD resets it to 9600 8N1, so I had to quit `cu` after the boot loader displayed and then restart it with the lower speed, but it's working! I haven't tried the installer yet, just been messing about seeing what autodetected.

Sometimes computers feel like those silly moments in fantasy stories where the wizard just keeps digging further and further through the library for that one bit of lost arcane lore.

So. Yeah. In a guide on running BlissOS in QEMU, I found the magic command line switch I needed. Now NetBSD 10.0RC6 boots up on the second GPU and I'm running NetBSD and Slackware at the same time on this computer.

Now I just have to figure out sharing the keyboard.

#totallynormalcomputing

Today in #totallynormalcomputing, now that the breadboard computer is back in the slackintosh case, I can start working on setting up QEMU for GPU passthrough.

Which, of course, means building and installing QEMU from #pkgsrc and tweaking my kernel and rebuilding. I kicked off both because why not. I was using 5400MiB out of 31467MiB with both builds, a youtube video and a bunch of tabs open in firefox.

I guess I won my little war on desktop bloatware.

Finally, the NetBSD side isn't being neglected. It's just going to be even more involved. Once I get this thing in its final home[case] and get the second GPU installed, there's going to be some extra #totallynormalcomputing going on.

@minego I'm still hoping #totallynormalcomputing catches on a bit more (I am on @ActionRetro's mastodon instance :)

More seriously, I decided to upgrade my tower, but I don't have enough power supply and SATA ports to put all 8 drives in at the same time, so this is temporary while I get it setup and copy data off the old computer and drives.

And then, in a month or two, I'm going to bolt my Intel Gen11 framework motherboard to this, get 5 more SSDs and turn that into a NAS. :joy:

I've got Slackware installed, NetBSD 10RC3 is next.

On my #EndeavourOS work machine, I do a pacman -Syyu every week.

Every time, I get >1GB of updates to download, often about 4GB of change.

To borrow @ActionRetro's catchphrase (and overload it a bit),

This is #TotallyNormalComputing

(i.e., very odd and abnormal)
