Working on my website (https://tourma.great-site.net) has resulted in me removing two suggested search engines and adding 1.5.
I removed Mullvad Leta as they are discontinuing the service. Waterfox Search was removed as >500 searches cost $15/month. I'm not recommending Kagi because it's paid, I'm not recommending Waterfox.
I did add Lycos as it's so old it doesn't have any AI whatnot or other modern enshitification. And I added noai.duckduckgo.com because of the no AI. Also adding Onion links where applicable.
So...yeah.

So, I let my annual plan with #ProtonMail lapse because of their CEO's statments around the US election, and their seeming pivot to crypto crap. It eneded on the 16th. I got an email, (that I just saw today,) that they were going to delete all of the data over what a free plan has by the 17th if I didn't do it myself/paid for a plan with enough data.
That's pretty shitty giving 14 hours (I got the email at 10AM.)
Makes me even more okay with having switched to #Tuta.
Now I just need a website address and maybe a cloud storage.
This is your periodic reminder that Linux Mint, (and probably other distros,) allow you to change the opacity of a window. I don't remember if its a default or if I had to change a setting, but scrolling on the title bar will make the window more or less clear.
It can be used for whatever, but I use it so I can make spirals or other hypnotic imagery visible no matter what window is focused.
Useful, if distracting.
This PC has a series of that Sailor Moon image redraw meme from 2020 as the desktop background set on shuffle.
On top of that is this site: https://zebra-north.com/hexcorp/hypnologo/
Shared by @hexlatex over on Bluesky. It is set to full screen and is mostly opaque, but with enough translucency to show off the background beneath.
On top of that is Discord more translucent to show what it looks like to have a window on top, but not fully obscuring.
I enjoy it.

A question for my website: https://tourma.great-site.net/Links.html?i=3
I've been thinking about subdividing "Cool Links" into more categories. Would more on the same page be better, or more links at the top and bottom?
Or just leave it a hodgepodge?
Thanks!
Hey all.
I'm shifting from using indivitual #PortableApps to using the #PortableApp app. I'd like to move #Calibre to that way, but the Import/Export doesn't work with portable apps. Is there a way to get the PA app to see the old install?
Thanks
Trying out Bazzite, (KDE flavored,) in a VM. It's definitely a Linux sub-distribution.
Didn't get very far because the amount of hdd space I afforded it wasn't enough to install my test game.
Guess I should back up.
I was trying to play a Wallace and Gromit game I have through Amazon on Linux Mint and Heroic player and it crashes constantly. A friend suggested Bazzite. Not willing to commit to a full reinstall or dual boot, I'm VMing it.
Some...thing Bazzite does with steam won't work on my GPU, too old I think. Not sure if it's the KDE or the fedora, but programs are just different enough to be annoying.
I should also try to play the game through Lutris on Mint, see if that works.
I should also check out the Bazzite community. See how heavily populated by Linux bros (derogatory) it is. I don't think there is any distro with 0.
Hey, got a Blobun question. Has anyone tried it with steam proton? I've got a Linux rig and had enough games just crash that I'm asking before I put money into the sale.
Or if it is on some other distro place that is better for the developer and still works with Proton.
Hi all, this is a continuation of my question on an Android web browser that can limit the amount of data used.
https://tech.lgbt/@Tourma/115214558567911008
Another question I have is if there is an app out there that can monitor daily data usage by app? Preferably can tell the difference between data and wifi. My phone has one, but it's by the month. I want to see day to day what's going on if possible. Again, FOSS preferred, but I'll take not ad ridden if that's what exists.
Also, is there a way to make a button that will take me right to the Data screen where the turn wifi off is? That'd be more helpful than airplane mode.

At the moment I'm using #Ironfox with heavy uBlock limiters on. Not sure how effective it is.
I did learn yesterday that Mastodon requires Javascript to run.
lite.duckduckgo.com is a super minimalist version of DDG that I think also nixes their AI junk.

WHY does Windows 11 allow you to enlarge the font, but not resize the save dialog boxes, nor allow you to resize them??? Scrolling to save in the save as box is straight up dumb.
Hey all, Windows 11 question.
Is there a good weather widget that is free, minimally invasive, (telemetry, etc.) preferably FOSS, and can show multiple cities as a bonus?
I'm having to use Win11 for work, so I might as well make the most of it. Also the requirement of "free." I'm not spending money on my work PC. I have the local weather with the installed by default MSN weather, but I like to see how it is where my friends live too.

Found a #Linux program I like. It's called #geeqie
https://www.geeqie.org/
It does a variety of things to images. What I've been using it for it to find duplicate/similar images. It's not as good as #Visipics (https://visipics.info) as each has to be deleted seperatly, but it's the best I've found so far.
First I tried to run Visipics with Proton. It works, but it still shows a Windows file system, which isn't helping.
Hey all, #Linux question.
Is there a (GUI) way to adjust the size of the title bar and it's buttons? Like, where the close, maximize, etc.? That shit's too tiny.
Running Linux Mint if that helps.
Well my MSI has started working again without doing anything?
I mean, I'm not upset, just confused. it's also really slow installing things. And very slow to boot.
We'll see if it boots again tomorrow.
Got a nice visual setup though.

Hey all,
I just got a Cannon EOS 2000D/Canon EOS Rebel T7 DSLR for my birthday. It advertised Canon Connect to tirelessly send pictures to my phone. That's neat! But I don't want to give data to Canon if I don't have to.
Is there a 3rd party app for doing this that doesn't contact Canon? Preferably FOSS. Can be Android or Debian. I can try and get a Windows one to work through Proton too.
Thanks!

Got Mint running on my good PC! The weird thing is it demanded a file named mmx64.EFI and the bootable disc creator in Mint 20 didn't generate one, but I followed instructions and renamed grubx64.EFI to mmx64.EFI and it worked.
Some of the apps I use (Vivaldi) were hidden behind an, "unverified" filter that Mint put in for 22 and I had to turn that off.
Remaining issues I can think of atm:
• I might have to deal with setting up a MOC for Secure Boot
• My data drive (nee D:) is read only.
• I can't get Mint's Firefox to make PWAs.
• Steam is demanding a 32bit driver for my GPU even though it's 64 bit.
• I still need to log into like, 8000 more things.
Fun thing I just found out with my work computer. If I put my Magsafe popsocket onto where the GPU is, the screen turns off.
Probably shouldn't do that!
Hmm...
So, my library seems to block https://botgts.evilgeniusrobot.uk
Normally, they only seem to block video games that use a ton of data like Honkai Star Rail or site that can circumvent the blocks, like tor.org or mullvad.net. Incidentally, I used Tor to confirm this.
Why it's blocked is an interesting question, and not one I can answer unless I feel bold enough to question IT about it. Which I don't.
What is interesting though is that I can view the posts that are federated no problem. For example:
https://tech.lgbt/@ftmf@botgts.evilgeniusrobot.uk/114950091641575076 is fine, but:
https://botgts.evilgeniusrobot.uk/@ftmf/statuses/01K1H7ZNNW1BC68N6M9BJGZEBQ is not.
This might be a low key method of censorship circumvention?
offcialreuterstoots.com/@news might be blocked, but tootproxy.ca/@news/@officialreuterstoots.com/ might get though.

I updated my website with a bunch of stuff on RSS: https://tourma.great-site.net/villains_read.html
Here's an odd Linux question:
What 32bit Linux OS would you recommend? Being able to do most things with a GUI would be preferable.
What I'm working with here:
Windows tablet
CPU
Intel(R) Atom(TM) x5-Z8350 CPU @ 1.44GHz 1.44 GHz
RAM
2.00 GB
GPU
Intel(R) HD Graphics with 1GB
Storage
29.1 GB
System Type
X86-based PC
Chipset
AMI Cherry Trail CR
It is currently (barely) running Win10 and absolutely will not run Win11. I don't think it can run a 64bit OS. I'd like for it to still work. I'm hoping that will a Linux OS it would actually work better.
