Even when humans try to help foster regrowth of burned or damaged #JoshuaTrees, it’s a long, fraught process, said Ashley Hemmers, a tribal administrator for the #FortMojaveTribe, whose ancestors have lived for centuries in the region. Now, the fires are fed by invasive species such as #cheatgrass, Mediterranean #splitgrass and #Saharamustard that #litter the #desert floor.

Delighted to see our new paper out in Journal of Applied Ecology. We examine how and interact with community composition to determine long-term dynamics. This work utilizes a unique 30+ year dataset from steppe in the Columbia Basin WA.
