Common Desktop Environment comes back after 2 years with v2.5.3!

Two years after the last point release of Common Desktop Environment, a new point release has been released this year, bearing version 2.5.3. Unfortunately, it’s nothing major; just a subset of bug fixes that are mostly development-related, such as compiler warning fixes to reduce the clutter during the build process.

For those who like the old-school desktop UI that is similar to old HP-UX (Visual User Environment) and Solaris Unix systems, this one is for you. CDE 2.5.3 brings some of the big changes, such as support for more mouse buttons in dtwm.

Improvements were also made to the built-in terminal emulator, including fixes for copy and paste system. You can see the full commit logs here.

The proper purists run OpenIndiana or Illumos or Tribblix and have the Service Management Facility with XFCE or CDE.

None of this "gernommy" malarkey. And all your terminal belong to ttymon with a PID in the low hundreds.

My poor Macbook Pro 2014 has a heart attack(CPU sensor fail) and no macOS can be installed on the machine any more, it just won’t pass the hardware test . Apple Genius told me it’s beyond repair and told me to let go.
Of course I wasn’t willing to let go so I installed #ubuntu and a nice #CommonDesktopEnvironment alternative called #NsCDE for some nostalgic indulgence. It works pretty well with some minor bugs but overall I’m super happy about it.
Looks like it’s gonna run for another 5 years!

- #ReactOS - https://reactos.org - Ein Nachbau von #Windoof ,als es noch brauchbar war.Vielleicht nicht 100% passend in diesen Beitrag,da Windoof (leider) noch nicht in Vergessenheit geraten ist,aber eine brauchbare Version davon werden die juengeren Menschen vielleicht bald nicht mehr kennen.ReactOS ist in etwa auf dem Stand von Windoof 7,was die Benutzeroberflaeche betrifft,unterstuetzt aber auch neuere Programme,da es sich Teile des Quellcodes mit dem #Wine Projekt teilt.Es ist quelloffen unter der GPL 2 Lizenz.Ich hab es selbst getestet,aber das ist schon ueber ein Jahr her.Damals konnte ich mit der Installation einer aktuellen #Opera #Browser Version das gesamte System schrotten,aber ich denke,da wurde inzwischen nachgebessert.
