This is the garden of a Franciscan convent here in Bologna. It was open during "Diverdeinverde" - where you could visit some.private gardens. Funny thing is, there's a plaque that says this is where the Franciscan sisters come on holiday! I knew Bologna was a tourist destination but not that it was a hotspot for the clergy! 😂✨

This is a black and white photograph of a statue of the Virgin Mary in the middle of a garden courtyard. She is on a stone pedestal in the center of a pathway with neatly trimmed hedges and shrubs on either side. In the background you can see a classical-style building with arched doorways and windows. It is partially obscured by tree branches. There is a big contrast between light and shadow which tries to bring out the different textures from the trees, the stone pedestal, the statue, the shrubs etc.

When Francisco Pizarro separated from his common-law wife, Quispe Sisa, he gave their 2 kids to his sister-in-law, Inés Muñoz, to raise. Quispe Sisa's son died young & the girl was exiled to Spain aged 18.

In 1573, after Inés had been widowed a 2nd time, her only son fell seriously ill.

A Spanish chronicler claims that her son dreamt that he saw his mother & other women dressed as nuns...
