It begins! July and August are our biggest months in the #garden, nonstop #harvesting, pickling, and #preserving! Yesterday I picked and froze the last of the #blueberries and Mike dug 1 1/2 bushels of Kennebecs and Yukons. He also picked some #cucumbers. Today, I made 5 quarts of #pickles, a large bowl of cucumber salad, and I sorted/stored the #potatoes. It is challenging to do all this while working, doing weekly chores, and renovating Dad's place, but I am grateful our land provides. 🫐🥒🥔

I got a feeling that it’s going to be a hot day, so I decided to make a simple salad of arugula, spinach, grape tomatoes, cucumber slices, crumbled goat cheese, and extra virgin olive oil drizzled over the salad and seasoned with salt and pepper. I also added a bowl of vanilla yogurt with granola on top and a cup of almond coffee.
I honestly think that it could use more grape tomatoes to add a citrus flavour into my salad and less goat cheese to lessen the sourness. But overall, I think my salad was pretty good and it kept me cool, and my yogurt gave a bit of sweetness to my breakfast.

Watermelon, cucumber, tomatillo, and Amish paste tomato update.

There are lots of the sugar baby watermelon that had successful pollination. The first cucumber is growing and the tomatillo have rapidly expanding husks. The Amish paste tomato has set more fruit and they look to be the correct shape unlike the early ones that set.

The cucumber bed with more of not-cucumbers in it. Harvested some beets this morning, pulled the pea vines that were done enough, and removed the plastic mesh. There are 4 cucumber plants from saved seeds, and 2 small cantaloupe type melons from saved seeds in the bed besides the beets, marigolds, petunias, mystery plants I haven't pulled...

They always grow really good when you're not ready to plant them out. This is all the squash, cucumbers, and melons. Everything good except one watermelon pot and I put more seed in it tonight in case the half sprouted thing doesn't grow a true leaf. They were all planted about 2 weeks ago.
