draft - things i wanna see with google:

-chrome profiles on chromeOS (if lacros is going away)

-ability to choose the android app apk instead of the pwa for twitter (twitter website only allows 5 profiles, android app has no limitation)

-data segregation options for google accounts on chromeOS and android - for example, when logging into a google account, allow us to click a data segregation button where we can tell chromeos to only allow a few specific websites for that profile. and to not login to any other google services or google apps with that google account. want this for android as well as chromeos

-make the gemini advanced login be separate from a google account. or add the ability to "login with microsoft", "login with openID", "login with apple" in addition to traditional google login so that if we have a one person multiple users setup, we can login to gemini advanced without the baggage of the entire google account. this would sort of go back to data segregation options as well.

another app that could benefit from a long to be separate from a google account would be google chat. if we have a one user multiple user profiles setup, it'd be nice to be able to login to google chat across android / chromeos profiles without carrying the baggage of the entire account's data set.

I posted this to chatgpt and it gave me a relatively good reply

You’ve raised a valid concern about the integration of Google accounts across different apps on Android devices. Here are some key points to summarize your suggestion and potential solution:

Problem:
Integrated Login: Currently, signing into one Google service (e.g., Google Chat) automatically logs you into other Google services (e.g., Google Photos) on the same device.
Multiple Users Function: When using the multiple users feature on Android, each user might not want to sign into all Google apps simultaneously. This could be inconvenient if a user only wants to access a specific app without their account affecting others.
Your Suggestion:
Option for Separate Logins: Introduce a feature in the settings allowing users to log into individual Google apps separately, rather than an all-or-nothing approach.
Possible Settings Option: "Allow this user to not sign into all Google apps at once" or "Separated logins for Google apps".
Benefits: This would give users more control over their accounts and privacy, especially useful for those who use multiple user profiles on the same device.
Additional Thoughts:
Current Features: While Google Photos and Google Chat provide valuable services, the forced integration can be limiting for specific use cases.
Apple's Approach: Although iOS 18 introduced app-specific locking, it lacks the multiple users functionality present in Android. Advocating for similar flexibility on iOS could also be beneficial.
Proposed Action:
Feedback to Google: Consider submitting feedback to Google through their support or feedback channels. Clear, user-driven suggestions often influence future updates.
Community Support: Engaging with online communities (e.g., Reddit, Google forums) to gather support and bring attention to this feature request.
Example Feedback:
Here’s a draft of how you might present your feedback to Google:

Subject: Feature Request: Separated Logins for Google Apps on Android

Dear Google Team,

I’m writing to suggest a feature that would greatly enhance the user experience on Android devices, particularly for those of us who utilize the multiple users function. Currently, signing into one Google service automatically logs you into all other Google services on the device. This integrated login approach can be limiting and inconvenient.

Proposed Feature:
Introduce an option in the settings allowing users to log into individual Google apps separately. This could be labeled as "Separated logins for Google apps" or something similar.

Benefits:

Enhanced Privacy: Users can manage their accounts more effectively without unwanted access to other Google services.
Improved Usability: Especially useful for those using multiple user profiles on the same device, allowing more tailored access.
I believe this feature would greatly benefit many users and improve the overall flexibility of the Android operating system.

Thank you for considering this suggestion.

Best regards,

[Your Name]

By articulating your needs clearly and engaging with the community, you can potentially influence the development of these features in future updates.

do i like google photos? yes

do i think android should have the ability to not login to google photos if i want to do something like use the multiple users function and sign in to google chat so i can chat with my family and friends on google chat but then not have *that account* be present in the alt multiple user setup?

i think an option google needs to make is to give us some sort of way, in settings or in the login, like maybe they could bury it so it wouldn't affect mainstream people. but still have it there for the 100 million folks on earth who would take advantage of it.

an option in settings when searching multiple users maybe itd be "allow this user to not sign into all google apps at once" maybe call it something better like "separated logins for google apps" or something like that

i'm embarrased. i mean, not really, i shouldn't have to be. but i guess i'm
waiting for apple to bring something like this to ios 19 then. cuz they sure as shit didn't bring it to ios18. they gave us the ability to lock individual apps but no multiple users yet. wtf apple come on.

Draft - smartest tablet choices ive made:

10 inch Samsung tablet, glass screen protector, shockproof case. Supports Google Play store for all Google apps like Google docs, Google photos etc, supports multiple user profiles if it comes to that. Makes a good kitchen tablet. 10 inch screen works good for reading and almost large enough for print edition newspaper apps. Readly magazine app works well as a killer app for the form factor.

draft - stupidest tablet choices ive made

Spending $60 on kindle fire tablet. No matter the size. It doesn't support Google apps. The one I got was 8 inch but even a 10 inch version is bad with no Google play support...

Another stupid thing

Missing out on sending Google my drawer laden iPad 6th Gen to get a free pixel tablet.

Idea - Google apps with sandboxed login on Android (for example, sign into Gmail, but check a box preventing the system from logging in to all the other apps like Google photos, for example).

abstract / draft / concept - Another Google app that could benefit from a "sandboxed login, separated / segregated from other Google apps" on android might be Gemini.

fictional observer: why?

Me: why? Well, because multiple user profiles

fo: multiple user profiles?

Me: yeah. Like on my android phone, I have a "main profile" and then I log out of that some times and login to a profile that's more designed for like, it's like an "alt user account" where things like ...

Fo: what

Me: I don't really want to say exactly

Fo: why

Me: because I don't want the narrative to sound dumb

Fo: is there a way you can explain why you want to discuss multiple user profiles and sound more legit ?

Me: sure. Ok. I'll give an example. Let's say a person has their work user account as a separate / segregated user account separated from their more personal user account etc...

Fo: ok that's reasonable right?

Me: yeah. Ok. So let's say that's the case, which is similar to my case, just not exactly.

Fo : ok

Me: so, yeah, one might want to be able to login to a *few* Google services from their "work" profile and vice versa, while not having android/ChromeOS auto login to all the other Google apps. So far, the three top apps that I'd want an ability to login "without signing in to other Google apps" would be:

1. Google chat
2. Gmail
3. Gemini

Google chat I used to communicate with family. That is the most important to me. It's like a web based sms replacement that's better than sms and email in multiple ways. It's got an edit button that works forever so users can completely control their digital footprint. Unlike emails and SMS which set everything in stone. Even then 15 minutes RCS gives is the same as no edit button. Any edit button that doesn't work forever is not worth it.

Fo: ok. But nobody uses multiple profiles except you.

Me: is that true?

Fo: I don't know.

Me: well, can you be more on my side and help me to make it so that I'm not the only one?

Fo: well you might not be the only one. But you may be, I'd assume, for lack of public data on this situation, let's say like 10 percent of people use multiple user profiles on phones.

Me: 10 percent is good. That's enough to be like “a thing”.

Fo: a thing?

Me: yeah like, growing up, I think i read that 10 percent of the population was xyz

Fo: xyz?

Me: I'm not gonna get into it, if that's ok

Fo: um…ok?

Me: let's just say, the xyz people, 10 percent is a pretty big number when you think what is 10 percent of 8 billion people. 800 million. So I'm gonna say 800 million people use multiple user profiles. And even if it *was* “only” half of that, that's still 400 million. That's bigger than the population of some of the top ten countries on earth. So, multiple user profiles, and safeguards for properly segregating/separating data between those profiles and allowing people to sign in to Google apps in a sandboxed manner that doesn't automatically log them into Google photos, for example, which could potentially be more…

Fo: what

Me: potentially like, …

Fo: what

Me: just like, I want the ability for certain Google apps to not automatically login across the system. This could be like and android15 feature. I guess they themselves (Google) don't have to market it, but, once it's live, once the feature/function is live, I think it would speak for itself and people would use it and show it off on social media/Twitter/ etc like how apple didn't advertise the Apple pencil shadow effect, but they made it anyway, and then social media channels highlighted the coolness of the function. Just like this security function could be a pretty cool solution to an ongoing issue with Android and Google apps.

Fo: ok.

Me: I mean, I think it kinda deserves more than just an “ok”.

Fo: well, what do you want me to say

Me: just, I don't know right now. I'm going to post this on mastodon, maybe blogger etc… hopefully enough folks will see it and agree with it and hopefully it will happen. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

In android, logging into one Google app will login to all Google apps. This is probably good for 70 percent of the population. However, for the other 30 percent, for folks who may want some level of data segregation, the ability to only login to one Google app at a time would be appreciated.

That's why I thought that maybe Google, in their signin process for any given Google app could add a prompt with a checkbox that says something to the effect of:

"do not use this Google account for other Google apps on this device - (require another login prompt for this Google account on other Google apps)"

Or

"Sign in to only one Google app at a time".

And actually, now that I think about it, this could be a system level setting inside the settings app maybe.

So you could goto settings to manage this functionality as well.

Maybe, if you don't want to bring that dialog to *all* Google app logins, you could start with a few: here are the ones I'd suggest

1. Google chat

Id start with Google chat because it's the most "social" thing Google has going on. With its gracious ability for the ability to edit messages and such, it's a worry free method of communication between friends and family.

Other Google apps could have it or all Google apps could have it, but if Google is somehow afraid of making it present across all apps, I'd suggest starting with Google chat.
