This is a black and white image of a pale marble sculpture of a woman. In portrait format, the bottom two thirds are dominated by a close up view of the sculpture from the waist up. The woman's torso faces the lens, but she looks over her left shoulder away from the viewer, creating a twist in her neck and shoulders which complements the folds of the fabric of her dress which flow across her body. While a Victorian sculpture, her hair and dress are classical style. The upper third of the image is the dark backdrop to the sculpture, creating high contrast with the pale artwork. The sculpture is called 'Lot's Wife' and it was created by Sir William Hamo Thornycroft. It sits in the V&A in London.
