I feel a little dirty:

Did modify my #Win10 #qemukvm VM to run with efi, secure boot and tpm.

And upgraded to #Win11 .

Once in half a year I do need Windows still for my wife's grading software (she's a teacher) and some other stuff.

Therefore I'm happy that I have done this act of digital housekeeping though it's not as fun as upgrading my Linux distros.

Did anyone successfully attach a #USB hub to a VM?

I use #qemukvm on #debian

I can make the hub appear in the VM, as hostdev device - like any other usb device.
But when I connect something to the hub, I gt the "unable to enumerate usb device" error.

does anyone know, how many of my computer's resources can be passed to a VM? i'm on Linux (NixOS specifically)

like let's say i want the VM to get native speed and performance, can i do that?

@gyptazy i used XCP-ng about 10 years ago (after an ill-fated experience with Xenserver) and it was pretty good, especially for those wanting a VMWare-like experience

These days though, I am just much more comfortable with a direct #QemuKVM or, more recently #bhyve hypervisor, they just fit my workflow better

I only really need single-node stuff, but with both KVM and bhyve on a ZFS filesystem and syncoid I can have pretty great recoverability onto backup hardware.

Habe diese Woche zum ersten Mal Linux‘ #KVM genutzt und muss sagen, dass ich begeistert bin. Seit wann läuft das denn so gut? Ich weiß, dass es das schon seit ca. 15 Jahren gibt, habe mich aber nie damit beschäftigt, weil „noch unausgereift und so“ (zumindest in meinem Kopf). Es ist wohl an der Zeit meine Virtual Box VMs zu migrieren. Fuck #Docker! 😂😇🤭

I grabbed an old 320GB hard drive I had lying around and smashed it into my PC and installed Arch it on it and it somehow installed within 1-3 minutes with archinstall. I then proceeded to setup a macOS QEMU KVM and it works really well. Only problem, I can’t go anywhere past 60HZ on my monitor or I get the top half of my screen going black. Maybe NVIDIA drivers, I dunno. (I used the proprietary ones so that’s probably why.)

The learning goal for today was to move my Delphi license manager running on Debian 10-VM from #VirtualBox to #qemukvm. First convert the image to qcow2 format. Then I read up on the bridge topics. And in the end it worked quite simply to get the VM in my home network. And even the old Windows 7 machine for the property management wasn't rocket science with the virtio-win iso image.
Believe me or not, it's a lot faster than VirtualBox.

And after a week, I found out yesterday that the homegear service for connecting my old max! devices under #Debian #bookworm is probably not that far either. There is no repo for this distribution yet. I just have this service now moved to a virtual machine under #qemukvm. There he is doing again under #bullseye. And finally the opportunity to look at and configure a different virtualization than #VirtualBox.

A desktop mode launcher for Android

Smart Dock is a desktop mode launcher for Android (mostly intended for QEMU).

Note: The application should be installed as a system app in order to obtain the right permissions. Without this functionallity will be limited.
