Since the #25th until #today, the #resistance against #authorities in
#Indonesia has been escalating. This is not something that happened
suddenly, but rather an #explosion from within each #individual who feels
alienated and deprived—both of their #rights and the surrounding
#nature—over the course of many #years. Many #people have not only
witnessed but have also directly experienced this deprivation.

This #anger has grown even more as people witness the #chaos, especially
seeing the widespread resistance in various cities across Indonesia over
the past few days. The anger intensified further after the confirmation
that 10 people had lost their lives.

The #government has attempted to suppress this anger through various
means, such as deploying the #military and #paramilitary forces,
#kidnapping #activists, and conducting #cyber operations to control the
situation. All of these actions represent #repressive #measures against
the ongoing resistance.

Therefore, this call for international solidarity aims to spread the
#spirit of resistance from Indonesia to the outside #world, so that
everyone understands that this resistance is not limited to Indonesia
but has spread far and wide, like a #rhizome. Every form of #support, no
matter how #small, is incredibly meaningful to us here.

destination. If it is to lead to the lower phase of communism, a
democratic government and a democratised state must make conscious
efforts to get there. That means progressively bringing value production
under #planned, democratic control, for the purposes of meeting #need.

"The German state has issued deportation orders for three #EUCitizens and one #American who have attended #ProPalestinian protests.

"Berlin immigration authorities issued the orders on 31 March, demanding that the four individuals leave Germany within one month or else face deportation. Their orders cite a protest in October 2024 in which masked individuals caused 'significant property damage, including #graffiti', as well as resisting arrest and calling a #police officer a '#fascist'.

"Unusually, three of the four orders also invoke the German principle of #Staatsräson, (“#StateReason”). This term originates from a speech #AngelaMerkel gave to the #IsraeliKnesset in 2008, asserting that #Israeli security was fundamental to the purpose of the German state.

"Staatsräson is not an officially defined term or codified anywhere in the German constitution or by German courts. At least two of the protestors are appealing the decision, with their lawyer telling Al-Monitor that it is a 'political concept, not a legal concept, and therefore unlawful'.

"In any case, the #deportation of #activists for #protesting should be opposed.

The backlash against Trump is nothing new. In my book “Resistance: How Women Saved Democracy from Donald Trump,” I documented the organic organizing among women that surged in the wake of Trump’s defeat of Hillary Clinton in 2016. The networks of women, the organizations they created, the entry into politics of a new generation of women politicians and the muscle memory for grass-roots activity remain, now invigorated by the Harris campaign. A GOP ticket even more misogynistic, repressive and hateful than its 2016 version has lit a fire under these women.

If women prevail in handing MAGA forces a defeat (as they did overwhelmingly in the 2018 midterms and in 2020), they might have Trump and Vance to thank. They have roused the sleeping (mama) bear, now more determined than ever to preserve democracy and keep misogynists out of the White House.

Gerade Menschen auf der Flucht brauchen Smartphones. So können sie kommunizieren und navigieren. Zwei Organisationen helfen dabei, indem sie alte Handys sammeln, aufbereiten und an die EU-Außengrenzen senden.

„Mit immer mehr repressiven Maßnahmen versucht die EU, Migration nach Europa so unattraktiv wie möglich zu machen“, sagt Maxi. Er trifft sich regelmäßig sonntags mit Alex und Connor von resist.berlin in einem Kreuzberger Kiezladen. Zusammen mit Sabine von der Partnerorganisation Wir packens an und weiteren Ehrenamtlichen sammeln sie gespendete Smartphones und bereiten diese mit Kartenmaterial und notwendigen Apps auf. Das Ziel: Menschen auf der Flucht diese Handys zu geben, um ihnen Kommunikation und Navigation zu ermöglichen.

Sabine beschreibt aus ihrer ehrenamtlichen Vereinsarbeit die Situation von Geflüchteten, die noch nicht an ihrem Ziel angekommen sind. Sie würden beispielsweise mit Autos von den Fluchthelfern irgendwo im Nichts ausgesetzt und können sich erst einmal nicht orientieren. „Diese Menschen wissen gar nicht, wo sie sind“, sagt sie. Und: „In einer solchen Situation sind Handys existenziell.“ Sie können so nachschauen, wie es weitergeht.

Doch viele Menschen auf der Flucht verlieren ihre Smartphones bereits auf der Fluchtroute. Berichte über Grenzbeamte, die diese mutwillig zerstören, häufen sich. Bei illegalen Pushbacks wie im Balkan treiben Polizisten und Soldaten die Menschen auf der Flucht durch Gewalt und über Landgrenzen zurück in andere Regionen. Handys werden beschlagnahmt und teils zerstört. Das EU-Antifolterkomitee prangert diese menschenunwürdige Praxis an.

Dabei kommen die beiden Gruppen ins Spiel. Sie haben sich vor einem Jahr bei einer Filmvorführung von The Game kennengelernt. In dem Dokumentarfilm geht es um genau diese Mechanismen der Flucht und Migration. Im Ankündigungstext heißt es: Der Film „zeigt schonungslos, was es heißt, wenn ein Menschenleben nichts wert ist. Und was es bewirkt, wenn einzelne das nicht hinnehmen. Sondern helfen.“

Die drei Freiwilligen von resist.berlin bekommen für Ihre Arbeit kein Geld. „Es liegt in unserer Verantwortung. Wir haben die technischen Fähigkeiten. Und es fällt uns leicht, weil wir dabei Spaß haben“, sagt Connor von resist.berlin gegenüber netzpolitik.org. „Das ist ein Beitrag, den ich gut leisten kann. Ich mache das aus politischer Überzeugung“, so Maxi.

Wichtig ist Kommunikation und Navigation

Alex berichtet davon, was sie bei ihrer ehrenamtlichen Arbeit gelernt haben. „Die Grundannahme ist immer, dass alle Handys zuvor dem Untergang geweiht waren.“ So spenden Menschen eher alte Handys, die sie nicht mehr benötigen. „Beim Upcycling geht es darum, die Lebenszeit der Hardware zu verlängern.“ Als Hauptanforderung haben sie erkannt, dass die Apps von Facebook, Whatsapp und Organic Maps funktionieren.

Leider verhindert häufig ein besonderer Diebstahlschutz von Apple-Geräten das Zurücksetzen von iPhones. Wichtig ist daher, dass die Spender:innen die Geräte vollständig und korrekt freischalten und zurücksetzen, so Alex. Sonst müsse man vorher genutzte Account-Daten eingeben, was in der Regel nicht mehr möglich ist.

Mit modernen Handys können Menschen auf der Flucht aber noch mehr als navigieren und kommunizieren. Sie können automatisch abfotografierte Dokumente übersetzen. So können Menschen auf der Flucht Kontakt zu Behörden oder Hilfsorganisationen aufnehmen, sagt Sabine.

Logistik vom gemeinnützigen Verein, technisches Wissen von Nerds

Spender:innen können an vielen Orten in Berlin und im Umland ihre Geräte in extra präparierte Boxen werfen oder direkt an Wir packens an einsenden. Bei der aktuellen Runde kamen über hundert Geräte in zwei bis drei Monaten zusammen, schätzen die Ehrenamtlichen. Alex hat langjährige Erfahrung in der Mitentwicklung von einem freien Android-Betriebssystem. Schnell und für eine Vielzahl an unterschiedlichen Menschen an diesen Handys zu arbeiten, ist für ihn dennoch neu. In der Sprechstunde von resist.berlin ist die Beratung viel individueller.

Derzeit ist vor allem die nächste Tour von Wir packens an nach Calais in Nordfrankreich im Fokus. Ortsspezifische Karten werden heruntergeladen, um die sofortige Inbetriebnahme durch Menschen auf der Flucht zu ermöglichen. Wir packens an fährt regelmäßig mit Lkws auch an andere Orte wie die polnische Grenze nach Belarus oder auch Griechenland, um Kleidung, Hygiene- und Medizinprodukte sowie nun auch Smartphones zu Menschen in Not zu bringen.

Sabine beschreibt aus ihrer Erfahrung in der Geflüchtetenhilfe, dass das wahrgenommene Klima immer ungemütlicher wird: „Die Haltung hat sich grundsätzlich geändert.“ Was früher noch möglich war, wird schwieriger. Deswegen müsse man sich nun umso mehr einbringen: „Die Geflüchteten sollen sich hier bewusst nicht wohlfühlen.“

Maxi vergleicht dies mit der Einführung von Bezahlkarten für Menschen, die in Deutschland Schutz suchen. Bezahlkarten seien zwar immer noch attraktiver als das Leid, das die Geflüchteten in ihrer Heimat erleben. Aber sie sollen eine abschreckende Wirkung haben.

resist.berlin bietet auch eine regelmäßige Sprechstunde für Menschen an, die sich in Berlin aufhalten. Gerade aktivistische Gruppen kommen auf ihr Angebot zurück, um mehr über Datenschutz und IT-Sicherheit zu erfahren. Wir packens an hat seinen Sitz im Brandenburgischen Biesenthal. Beide Gruppen wünschen sich, dass mehr Menschen helfen, das Leid von Menschen zu lindern, denen es schlecht geht.
