Lessons so far.
1. Root your phone before it goes stale. Tried to root a 11 yo HTC. The Tools and boot images are memory holed.

2. #OPPO cockblocks rooting (at least on CPH1941 😥)

Are there any "advanced" #android rooting/modding support channels? Places where I can ask things like:

* Is it possible for me to decrypt and mount the /data partition manually from the lineageos recovery?
* What exactly was it that google changed about play integrity that broke bypasses? It doesn't seem to affect microg, will it in the future?
* How are secrets stored in the keystore and can I disable the hardware keystore to make backups work?

• I grew up with early android devices that were janky af. #Jailbreaking looked to me like a worse alternative to #rooting because back in the early days of the 1st #iPad there was no way to build #Apps for #iOS without a #Mac & #XCode and a #subscription!

#Rooting a new #Xiaomi device is getting totally ridiculous these days.

I already jumped through the hoop to "request bootloader unlock permission" in one of Xiaomi's #bloatware apps at **EXACTLY** midnight beijing time, at least this worked. Now the second step would be to actually unlock the boot loader. On #FreeBSD, I can't use Xiaomi's unlocker tool (but I guess that's actually a good thing), so I found some python script that also works (after a bit of fiddling with it, patching shebang and removing some nonsense), and see what it tells me now.

Xiaomi, you used to be cool, a long time ago... 🙄

Gravenstein scion wood from 2024 that's been in the refrigerator. I saw a forum post mentioning they had some old scion wood that was callused up so I went and looked at mine and some of it was callused up so I stuck it in some water and put a bag over it the other day. It was already leafed out and I didn't expect those to turn green but they did. Wait and see if the callus grows roots.

A good example of the start of scion (Viognier in this case) rooting because the under-vine weeder has mounded up soil around the vine trunk.

If this continues, you end up with the situation in the second photo: large roots growing from the scion but the rootstock fails to thrive. Eventually the rootstock dies off and the vine is own-rooted (and therefore susceptible to phylloxera and other soil conditions they may not be well adapted to...).

from yesterday, I've been busy tinkering my phone, and learning more about how shit of a company #samsung is, and learning more about rooting, and learning how to use #odin4 'cuz I don't use Windows on my main machine, and so uh...

I ended up with this:
The stock Android 14 (Tiramisu I think) & OneUI 6.1 rom, rooted with magisk (the app is hidden as "SuperSettings"), and I installed modules and stuff to hide root and unlocked bootloader (can't lock due to custom VBMeta), and I debloated it to the minimum, with only GMS and GSF remaining (all trackers and most perms blocked), removed all the carrier and smasnug bloat, and I was left with this:

Note: Amarok (fiddling with it; might coem in handy later), App Manager, Aurora Store, Droid-ify, LocalSend, SuperSettings (Magisk), Termux, and Vivaldi are installed by me
