#DeltaChat has no forward secrecy.
And depended on SHA-1 and using MD5.
Both are considered weak cryptography if I'm not mistaken.
While I believe deltachat to be a great app with good use case, it's not what I'm looking for.

#xmpp ecosystem is?/was! pretty bad in serving proper e2ee cross platform implementation.
Till recently there was only conversations as a usable app. Since some weeks ago it seems that @dino now also offers e2ee by default. But also both conversations and Dino using an outdated omemo specification, and are by that not compatible with @kaidan.
I will reconsider xmpp when they adapt the newer specification.

@briar not mentioned, but also no, cause it's not working on #TailsOS or on android with Orbot.
So very much unusable, since it's not running on the platforms we use.

Quick tip for secure messaging:
End-to-end encryption is essential, but it’s not the whole story.

Apps can still log metadata—who you talked to, when, and how often. That info paints a picture, even if messages stay private.

Choose tools that minimize both like Signal or SimpleX.

@PolitPOP ja es stimmt, Threema ist ein ziemlich sicherer Messenger aber diese #MerleM hat einen gewaltigen knall. Sie vertritt radikal die Meinung, dass nur ihre Meinung die ganze Wahrheit ist und Threema ist der heilige Gral. Alle die vernünftige andere Argumente bringen werden weg geblockt und aus ihrem Feed raus zensiert, damit kein anderer das lesen kann. Es spricht absolut nichts gegen #SimpleX oder #signal.

Kennt wer diesen Account? Auf Bluesky wird andauernd #Threema empfohlen. Alle anderen sind shady. Nach der Frage nach Quellen und dass man den Eindruck hat Threema zu influencen, wurde ich geblockt. #SimpleX spioniert auch alle aus so die Aussage. @simplex

Laut @Volksverpetzer ist aber @threemaapp und auch simplex nur bedingt empfohlen. Werbeaktion von Threema?

Of course, that doesn't mean they automatically get to influence the project direction and compromise its values. However, as far as self-hosting on minimal/budget systems goes, #chatmail wins.

Also, SimpleX plans to integrate #cryptocurrency (like #SessionMessenger did) in the future so that will add more complexity.

Unless things have changed recently, SimpleX is no where near as flexible when using multi-device, multi-platform setups.

Having a second device requires the two devices being on the same WiFi network to work at all.

As I said, things may have changed.

I have two mobile phones, 1 laptop and a desktop all synchronised and capable of being used fully independent of each other.

Can you do that with SimpleX?

I also have 5 profiles connected to three independently operated chatmail servers on 3 continents, fully functional from within the one app.

Is this something SimpleX can do?

I was a huge SimpleX fan, been a Session user, suffered through Signal and ditched iMessage years ago.

Delta Chat is simple, flexible, works and I can finally ditch my mobile phone SIM.

Oh, and my non-techie family are happy to use it.

3. 🪙 #Monero: Digital cash, anonymous, permissionless, fungible, cheap, secure transactions with anyone, anywhere. Freedom to transact peer-to-peer.

I believe these three provide a solid foundation for a better internet.

Anyway i think it needs privately hosted servers to be a real alternative to centralized services like Signal.
For the fun of it i set up a SMP & XFTP server - hosted in Germany. No Onion adresses at the moment, may follow later.

VPS is contracted for 1 year, so the servers will stay around atleast until April '26 (maybe even longer).
