#trackpad

Weirdest thing.
#Debian #Linux. #Bookworm
My context, "Right-click" menu doesn't work. My keyboard, all the keys and Fn key binddings work.

I've tried to disable my external mouse, removing #bluetooth, #wifi. disabling my #trackpad to use my #mouse.

Switching to a left-handed mouse allows for the context menu to work.

Nothing else works! Any help would be awesome!
I tried using the install medium, an old #kernel. Nothing is working.

Any help would be appreciated!!

#apple #trackpad

*grummel* 😡

I've mentioned before that the #Apple Magic #Trackpad 2's one of the best purchases I've ever made, and how perfect it is OOTB on #Linux - gestures and all. The only downside to it is that it's pretty pricey, esp the Black version that I got (tho I still think it's worth every penny).

Since then, I've been meaning to find any other cheaper alternatives to it cos I genuinely think switching from a (wireless) mouse to a trackpad has done wonders to just how nice it is to use and work on my desktop. Surprisingly and disappointingly, none of the
known brands seems to bother to be in this market space besides Apple, not even #Logitech (who typically tends to be everywhere).

Right when I thought I was SOL, I discovered a bunch of Chinese
#touchpad s - a lot of which are Magic Trackpad clones.. including this one I settled on, the #JOOMA KB96. It not only looks similar to the Apple MT2, it has pretty much the exact same dimensions - surprisingly its glass surface also feels exactly the same as Apple's trackpads.

It tracks just as well too, and all my gestures (2, 3, 4-finger, etc.) work perfectly. Its connectivity options is better than the Apple MT2 even - supporting Wired USB-C, Bluetooth, and even a Wireless USB-A dongle (with USB-C adapter). The only
downside to it is that unlike the Apple MT2 which supports clicks (in addition to taps) anywhere on the surface of the trackpad with really nice haptic feedback, this trackpad doesn't support clicks at all - only taps. This shouldn't matter for most people who's used to or even prefers taps though - double tap dragging and triple tap highlighting should be your bestie.

Unlike Apple's Magic Trackpad, it doesn't work OOTB on Linux - but fixing that is super, duper easy thanks to others who's discovered how to before. I've linked my own writing on how to do it on my Linux Wiki below. All in all, for just ~145 MYR (~34 USD) instead of Apple MT2's price tag of 599 MYR (~141 USD), this is quite a banger peripheral to pair with the budget alternative to Apple's Magic Keyboard I've posted about before.

@lebout2canap @silvermoon82 If a #TrackPoint instead would be acceptable (cuz a #TrackPad may eat up a lot of estate compared to it), consider i.e. #DIY'ing with a #Sprintek #FlexPoint:

@lebout2canap @silvermoon82 I only know of some #Perixx #trackpad|s that use #USB, and by comparison to #Apple they are atrocious.

  • My next best option would be a #Trackpoint but I guess that isn's an option either...

If you are using the track pad on your laptop as if it were a stationary mouse, do yourself a favour and web search how to use it correctly. It will be life changing, in a time and aggravation saving sort of way.

my #apple magic #trackpad stopped giving haptic feedback when clicking. It still works, but it does not "click" anymore. I tried switching it of and on, dis- and reconnected it several times. Still broken. Does anyone know how to fix that? Is that a software bug, or did the taptic engine just die?

I've had this #magicmouse since my #apple period. It was a gift by my sister, and I liked a lot the design, so when I sold the #macbook I didn't feel to sell the #mouse. I kept it, but not used much, as the support in linux was poor (the scroll was slow and sluggish, and I could never manage to make it work decently).
Now I just fired up #kicad and REALLY NEEDED A MOUSE. Everyone has ever tried to use it with the #trackpad knows what I'm talking about.
So, I found the magic mouse on the bottom fof a drawer, tossed two batteries in it and... it works #PERFECLTY on Arch, with no fiddling at all. Just paired, and it Just Works(TM). What a lovely surprise!
...and is also a pretty color match for my #magnesium #slimbook #laptop !

ENGINEERS: STOP COPYING ALL THE BAD SHITE THAT #APPLE DOES!!!

  • THIS LAMP has less than 0 excuses to have the #USB connector on the bottom!

Unlike the shitty #MagicMouse it doesn't take just a few mins to charge for days of runtime and unlike the #LaggyMouse by Apple it's not some unergonomically THINN piece of glass and metal that looks like some industrial designers interpretation of #squid #sushi but the #rice is being replaced by a polished Hematite

  • And yes, unlike the #MagicTrackpad, the Magic #Mouse is so laggy, you can literally see it without going crosseye, which is absurd cuz the Magic #Trackpad is super crisp and fast.

IMHO it should be illegal to put #ports in a position where they prevent the use of a device whilst charging!

  • Espechally on something like a #lamp that unlike an RC model car has no excuse for choosing between use and charge...

#EngineeringFail #DesignFail #EpicFail #Enshittification

A rechargeable battery powered lamp with a very thick bottom and rim but it has the charging port on the bottom and doesn't use any fancy dock, so it's wobbling around and falling over whilst charging for no valid reason.

@ustralien Sadly no, and that's my big disappointment!

@frameworkcomputer decided to choose the #Apple-esque "flat cells below #trackpad" design in the unreasonable #THINN-ness race instead of doing what even the #EeePC and #Sony's #Vaio #P11Z did and have a slot at the back to chug in batteries!

  • I know why they did it, as a closed aluminium pan aka. "#lunchbox" design is easier to fabricate, but I'd rather some #ToolfreeSwappableBattery which are IMHO of more practicality than having the ability to swap out every port.

Not that I don't like those #modules, but I'd rather wish for a "#THICC-er" device if that gets me essentials like #Ethernet, #USB-A & -C as well as a #TRRS #HeadphoneJack / #HeadsetJack.

That being said the #Framework is still by a long margin the "least #enshittified" device on the market, and same goes for the #Fairphone devices...

Not to mention they don't have an #UltraNav-Style #Trackpoint and I do use that instead of a Trackpad.

I can’t use a anymore. I’ve just tried because for some reason I still have one lying around in my desk.
But after 15 years with a#MacBook and before that using |s, the muscle memory is gone.

I couldn’t be bothered carrying around a mouse and quickly adapted to alternative input methods. To me, the is as precise as a mouse ever was.

@niko That's because the gesture detection is relative and two-fingers used to scroll makes sense to the system as sideway scrolling would be interpreted with both fingers following coarsely the same line...

  • Personally, I've switched off my #TrackPad and use only the #TrackPoint as I find it more convenient...
