Ok. I think we're mostly on the same page. But I will say it's really annoying to run headlong into a paywall with the statement "disable your adblocker to continue" when I don't actually have an adblocker. The extension I use is only designed to block tracking elements. The ads it blocks is purely a side effect. I'm willing to view ads. I'm not willing to be surveiled. Claiming I'm running an adblocker is a bit Orwellian IMO.

I find this argument a little weak. There was never any agreement between myself and whatever services I use. If I don't want software running on my computer, then I won't run it. It's that simple. If any company/group/whatever wants to block me from using their service because of this, that's fair. But don't tell me that if I'm still able to use a service then I'm somehow cheating them out of money. It's THEIR choice to provide the service.

I've always loved technology, I love using my computers and messing around with different #linux distributions. I love experimenting with my old phones, flashing new roms onto them, and sometimes bricking them in the process. But it will never be more than a hobby for me. I live vicariously through the #floss people I follow that administer and develop for a living.
