@Tooden @SeaFury Ironically, given i have now hermitted since 2010 [transition 2004-2006, tried really hard to be brave & out 2007-2009, gave up end-2009], i am acutely aware that my combined depression & social phobia seem to have triggered a kind of agoraphobia, coz now those rare times when leaving the house is unavoidable [by which i do not mean going into town, catching pub transport or any other "normal" stuff, i mean innocuous stuff like checking letterbox, doing compost bin etc] before night's darkness, i react viscerally with much tension & nervousness, clammy skin, & general patheticality, which only recedes again once back inside. It is utterly ridiculous.

My belated self-recognition ~22 yrs ago as a transsexual woman, not merely the crossdressing male i had initially presumed for several decades since childhood, was 100% associated with my gender identity & 0% with whom i wished to grind bones. My subsequent decision to fully transition with all that entailed, & my existence post-transition as a woman, continues to have nothing to do with sexuality, only my gender identity. The issues remain separate, though related, with crystal clarity to me, but others seem desirous to blur. Even if that blurring is perceived to have political advantage [strength in numbers, as you infer], IMO it continues to fuel Vanillas' abject confusion, & sadly thence rhetorical, political & actual violence.

I either did not know, otherwise had also entirely forgotten, that /space has those additional measures, which i regard as attractive given my antipathy to Meta & BS. It seems to me now, rather belatedly to my embarrassment, that i should prolly begin to make plans to do yet another fedi-hop... this time to infosec.space. Do i need to begin all over again as a complete new user there, or do you have some magic incantation capable of moving "me" over to it holus bolus? Ofc i know that's a stupid question with an answer of No, Silly, but thought i'd check before starting over again manually.

Spring & summer brings extreme heat, violent thunderstorms, killer bushfires. It also brings tiny niceties unknown or unthought-of to some peeps, but much prized by others. In this heat, all the jumpers, sloppy-jos, sleeved collared shirts et al are put away, & light sleeveless sundresses or backless tops etc come back into play. That allows the ponytail direct skin access to swish across back & shoulders randomly which, as a very tactile peep, is a delightful sensation. One which i did not have even the slightest possibility of in my life, for the first ~46 years. So, minute insignificant moments like these alert me to the fact that even depressed glass-half-empty Puddleglums can acknowledge & appreciate, no matter its myriad shortcomings, the magic & good fortune of #Transition 20 years ago. Small things signify huge things.

For me, all the functional advantages Friendica has over other software, including Mastodon, are largely negated by its comparatively hideous lethargy. It is commonplace that sending posts can take several minutes to complete, & even on the best days it can take 30 - 60 seconds, vs nearly instantaneous on my Masto instances. Similarly, incoming posts often lag badly behind what i see in my Masto instances [on bad days by hours]. Given the large majority of my friends & regular interlocutors are on Masto instances, having ~real-time chats with them is nearly impossible in F, but elementary in M. It's such a pity.

Years ago Opera Presto, then later Vivaldi, switched me onto the substantial browser usability improvements from a dedicated second sidebar incorporating customisable #WebPanels. Sadly, eventually, it became too hard to keep faith with the Vivaldi project for numerous design reasons. #FirefoxNightly :firefox_nightly: with #Sidebery became my new home instead, despite lacking that extra sidebar. Much more recently, #Floorp :floorp: crossed my radar, replete with a Vivaldi-esque WP sidebar, & i was smitten. It does, however, have some issues i dislike, but i tolerated them for the overall good. Then #ZenBrowser :zenbrowser: arrived, & i had a new love, albeit its unusual WP implementation is less convenient than it should be. Atm both :floorp: & :zenbrowser: seem to be heading in design directions less attractive to me, so the age-old quandary continued. I learned in fedi-posts/toots that yesterday/today [timezone crap] is apparently the annual Trans Day of Remembrance. I didn't know that, i didn't know there was such a thing [maybe it's a Merkan thing?]. Other times i read that it's annual Pride Day again, but similarly [though in this case yes i have heard of it] i never know it's coming, til i begin reading of it again. I live under my rock, keeping myself alone at home, participating in no LGBTQI community of any kind, not being activist in any way, just trying to be motivated enough to bother getting outta bed each morning. I wonder if more trans peeps are public & active, or solitary & inactive like me. I admire those with the courage, determination, fortitude, & self-confidence. @MixMistressAlice Interesting, & i have sympathy. I have a couple of #Friendica accounts [different instances], but even though historically i have spent multiple contiguous weeks using them,on & off, over the past year or so, i inevitably return to Masto with heavy heart, accepting the loss of some handy functions, but grateful for the small latency here. Both my current F's, & each of the various other F instances i've tried & closed in older times, suffer from excruciating latency PITA. I'm in Straya, & all the instances i've tried are in the northern hemisphere, so i dunno if that distance is a factor in the horrible latency, or if the F database processes are inherently ponderous. All i know as a dumb end user is that i can carry on "toot chats" on Masto with my interlocutors in more or less real time, but that's impossible in all my Fs due to the latency [frequently it can take several minutes after i send a post, before F finishes spooling, or queuing, or something, then begins sending it out, then eventually tells me [iconographically] that it's finished]. It frustrates me to bursting! I can tolerate the poor ergonomics of its UI, its 90s aesthetic, other blemishes, but i just can't stand that latency.

Just took a break from my pooter to heave my corpulent meatsack self to my ensuite to belatedly brush my teeth after brekkie. Stooped over my handbasin, doing the doings, i realised that parts of my face were being randomly splashed, so i returned my mind from zooming along the astral plane to consider what might be happening.

Realised that i'd forgotten to turn the cold tap fully off as i began brushing, that the combo of its consequent partial valve opening, the cooler than usual day, & the local water pressure today had combined to make the resultant waterflow's #ReynoldsNumber fully turbulent, not laminar. Furthermore, the ensuing randomness of its flow in this mode was such that often it was striking the basin drain grate grills rather than falling cleanly thru the gaps, & was rebounding aka splashing. Finally, my stoop was sufficient that my face happened to be in just the right range to intersect with this mild local splashing.

These contemplative revelations pleased me. It was a nice little low-key local demonstration that no matter the pomposity, arrogance, & suicidal determination of the ridiculous human species, the principles of #physics, #thermodynamics, #fluidmechanics, & #chaostheory will always prevail.

But i expect such thoughts regularly cross the minds of most peeps as they do their routine ablutions... 🤷‍♀️ 🤭 😜

@informapirata @talksina A couple of weeks ago i returned to my primary Mastodon instance, after spending several months again in my primary #Friendica instance, for one simple reason; compatibility with Mastodon.

Despite knowing that Friendica is much older than Masto, i also know that many Masto users have no idea that there's any such thing as non-Masto instances for the #Fediverse. Given that, coz Masto was my first venture into the fediverse myself, before i went exploring for alternatives, it's a simple fact that the majority of my regular interlocutors are on Masto, & they seem to "expect" posts to conform to their perception of fediverse convention. Worse, i often found some Masto accounts that seemed to federate poorly with my Friendica instances.

So whilst i love the much greater UI power of Friendica, there's no denying it's also a quite outdated style of UI design in my eyes, & poses some difficulties in my easy communications with my [majority Masto] friends, such that it's often just "easier" to come back & use Masto. I seem to go thru these cycles each few months, ie, sooner or later i feel sure i shall again feel like using Friendica again as my daily fediverse place.
