Yesterday was a good day at our local hawk count watch, over 8,000 raptors in flight with the first Rough-legged Hawks coming through.

Nashville warbler eating seeds from my Joe Pye weed. It was after sunset so the picture is grainy but I feel lucky to have seen it! #birds #BirdsOfMastodon #warbler #FallMigration
Pagan Community Notes for Oct 2, 2025:
In this week’s Pagan Community Notes: South Florida Pagan Pride shines with a successful gathering, ATC Matriarch Belladonna LaVeau shares a message, Cherry Hill Seminary announces it will begin offering ordinations, Star offers her Tarot of the Week, and (careful broom riders!) the fall migration fills the skies with birds on the move.

The American Pipits (Anthus rubescens) rooting in the muck. Arriving from the Arctic, they always have a stopover for a few days or weeks to rest and feed in this beaver pond.
A sign of fall.
About 100 Canada Geese high up in the sky taking advantage of northerly winds today.

Another fun #fallmigration visitor yesterday, a non-breeding Redwinged Blackbird. I love this look on them. There was more than one, maybe they stick around for a couple of days. #birds #birdsofMastodon #Ostdrossel
The Robin fall bathing championships have started, and there is a lot of competition at even the smallest waterhole. I love watching them, they are so competitive! #birds #BirdsOfMastodon #birdwatching #fallmigration #Ostdrossel
The bathing quandaries of a Hermit Thrush... A lovely #fallmigration visitor. Too bad that the lens was splashed but thankfully he was aware and jumped right in front 😁 I love these cinnamony cuties! I only see them very rarely. #birds #BirdsOfMastodon #nature #birdwatching #Ostdrossel

Wilson’s Warbler. These cuties are common Texas migrants in the fall and one of my favorites to see. Fun fact: there are 46 species of warblers that regularly occur in Texas during migrations. #birding #birds #BirdsOfTexas #warblers #FallMigration
A fun visitor arrived yesterday, a lone Robin. Today, I also saw one lone Grackle. Maybe there will be some fall migration sightings in this backyard after all. It is a weird fall, it is colder but the trees are not there yet, they are still all green! Calendars are still on the hold (except for desk ones) but I hope to get them all out by the end of the week.

This lovely northern harrier was on its way to its wintering grounds. Safe travels, dear friend!

At the Shakespeare Garden, there were a few birders patiently waiting for #RubyThroatedHummingbirds to show up, and I was happy to snap a mediocre photo of this beautiful birbette.
But I also had a great view of an #ArburCork tree that had a few nice borbs, including a #YellowBelliedFlycatcher and a #capemaywarbler
OK, just for fun, let's do reverse chronological order. It sometimes happens that the last #borb you see is the most special. Well, that's very subjective, but that's what happened today.
At the end of the afternoon, after spending some time with some super expert birders on a raptor watch at Belvedere Castle, I strolled along the south path of the Turtle Pond and found, much to my surprise, a #Blackburnian #Warbler.
