If you are using #archlinux, think twice before updgrading (mariadb). Upgrading to v. 12.1.2 will break #akonadi, and thereby #kmail, #kontact, #korganizer etc.

The cause of this is not kmail or akonadi but mariadb. If you experience this, you can downgrade mariadb packages using pacman -U and point it to packages in /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ - the packages mariadb, mariadb-libs and mariadb-clients must be downgraded, adding them on one line is best.

UPDATE I have NOT got this working safely yet.

If you were hit
* close any kdepim app - kmail, kontact, korganizer, kaddressbook, merkuro or other
* stop akonadi - $ akonadictl stop
* remove ALL akonadi related dat from ~/.local and ~/.config. ALL.
* I removed all config, state and app data for kdepim apps as well, before kmail would start cleanly

Repeat until kdepim apps starts cleanly

Is #Thunderbird really the only standalone #Linux desktop calendar app that can just subscribe to #CalDAV calendars? 🤨

#GnomeCalendar needs a ton of dependencies and #GNOME stuff running.
#KOrganizer the same for #KDE.
#Evolution apparently just hooks into GNOME online accounts.

There are some terminal calendar apps, but yeah... If one has #vim keybindings and is configurable via config files, I am open to suggestions.

Bei einem Laptop ist es ja eigentlich nicht ungewöhnliche daß mal kein Netz vorhanden ist, oder keine Verbindung zum Heimnetz besteht.
Der Setup hat auch die letzten 8 Jahre problemlos und störungsfrei funktioniert. Erst mit dem Umstieg auf Trixie war es vorbei mit der schönen Welt der Datensynchronisation.

Seit dem Umstieg auf #Trixie ist in der Kiste der Wurm drin. Besonders häßlich der Totalausfall der Funktionen der #PIM-Suite in Verbindung mit #CalDav und #CardDav Konten. Im Heimnetz läuft noch ein Homeserver der einen #radicale beheimatet und die Termine und Kontakte zuverlässig bereitstellt. Nur Trixie will damit nicht vernünftig. Neuen Kalender anlegen, CalDav konfigurieren, alles da. Bis der Server nicht erreichbar ist, dann alles weg.

As an avid user of #KMail, #KOrganizer and #Zanshin, I have (quite) some feedback and bug reports to provide. But whenever I try to, it seems to end up in the void.

I think a first step would be concentrate on the number of communication channels that devs can actually manage. For both their sanity and the users’.

Anyone else using #KDE #Korganizer to sync their #Nextcloud calenders and getting authentication errors and invalid logins lately?

Something on my system appears to forget their Nextcloud creds after reboot, leading to many repeated failed login attempts which, in turn, results in my IP being blocked for new logins.

I think its Korganizer because when I set a new app-password there, the issue disappears. Now I'm wondering if its just me or a general bug?

@ts-new Ich seh gerade wie zufrieden ich wohl bin, seit ich #LibreOffice bzw. davor #StarOffice und OpenOffice nutze. Ach ja, das "restliche Office" wird bei mir von #Kmail, #KOrganizer & Co ergänzt, zusammen mit meiner NextCloud, auch wenn ich mein Onlinegestrüpp langsam zurückbaue.

Es funktiert einfach, zuverlässig, und schnell. Fairerweise habe ich aus o.g. Grund keine Erfahrungen mehr mit #MSOffice seit 2007. Jaja, das zeigt zwar dass ich unheimlich alt bin, aber auch, dass ich das teure Gerümpel nie wirklich gebraucht habe. Allerdings sehe ich das ja oft genug (mitz gesundem Abstand) bei Freunden und Bekannten. :smile:

Ha! Ich hab nie drauf geachtet, aber wegen dieser Unterhaltung habe ich mal geguckt... und ja: LibreOffice startet mittlerweile wirklich rasend schnell. Ich hab es nur nie bemerkt, weil es immer gut und im laufenden Betrieb zuverlässsig gelaufen ist. Einmal gestartet, brauche ich nichts mehr zu tun, bis ich abends den Rechner ohnehin wieder runtergfahren hab.

Mit dem Gedöns von #WinzigWeich war das Utopie, soweit ich mich zurückerinnern kann. :smile:

I've got a calendar file with all events from the Europe/Berlin Timezone. When #thunderbird is configured to use Europe/Amsterdam as its display timezone, all events during the daylight saving period are displayed off by one hour. The event details lists the correct time with timezone information. Both VTIMEZONEs are defined in the calendar file. Without the VTIMEZONE definition for Europe/Amsterdam, the error is the same.
Any ideas what's the cause?

I've an issue with character encoding in tags with KOrganizer 6.3.2 (it seems to be only with tags) in tasks with caldav backend. Has anyone also encountered this?

@ts-new Mittlerweile löppt #Akonadi tatsächlich relativ "sturzfrei". Meine Güte, damals... eine Terminanfrage kam als abgelehnt zurück, beim Verschieben aus Kmail raus *Klatsch-Batsch* alles mehr oder weniger unreparierbar zerschreddert. Mailkonto hinzufügen, Fehler im Passwort oder so... Dialog geht dreifach erneut auf und Zack... siehe oben.

Heiße Zeiten damals, hat sich aber wirklich gemausert. Anfangs war es zwar, gerade mit Blick auf #KMail, manchmal ein wahres Drama, aber ich hatte mir damals sogut wie möglich gemerkt, wann welche Probleme aufgetreten waren. Dabei geblieben war/bin ich bis heute.

Denn, den Komfort, den ich (trotz der früheren Probleme) mit Komponenten wie #KAddressbook, #KOrganizer und all den anderen Komponenten genieße, möchte ich nicht mehr missen.

Und mit etwas Glück... ist "Drama, Baby, ja nun einigermaßen gegessen. :smile:

Klasse, oft geht vieles einfach mal unter.

Ich bin erstaunt, dass "so viele" #Kmail nutzen. Wenn ich mich umhöre habe ich immer den Eindruck, ich wär der einzige in meinem Dunstkreis, der damit unterwegs ist.

Fairerweise muss ich aber auch dazu sagen, dass es (bei mir) bis vor zwei, drei Jahren manchmal auch ein Kreuz gewesen ist, damit zu arbeiten: Mit beinahe jedem Update hat irgendwas plötzlich wieder funktioniert, dafür was anderes nicht. Egal mit welcher Distri ich rumgespielt hab. Trotzdem gab und gibts für mich nichts pratischeres. 😊

Bin mal gespannt... den Laptop meines Mannes machen wir demnächst auch zur 100%-Linux Maschine - er möchte auch KMail, #Korganizer & Co. 😁

I used to use #KOrganizer, but on my new system it crashes now when I try to create a new date. Transferred it all over to #Thunderbird. Hope that keeps working.

Saw many bad reviews on Discover regarding #kmail , #korganizer and the like and I wonder why? I have been using them for 6 months with Proton and Gmail and they seem to all work fine and neatly integrated. What am I missing?
