I’ve been thinking lately about how since very young we are tuned to learn rules, do this, do that. We spend our whole life listening to those older, wiser, opinionated folks sharing with us what you should be or not be doing.

As a parent myself, I sometimes regurgitate the same type of remarks I used to hear. My oldest, getting close to his teens called me out a few days ago: “Dad, that is great advice for 20 years ago. Today, you can read and be online on your phone. Things are different!” He is right. Things have changed drastically. A whole new generation of thinkers, creatives, rule breakers are growing up. Learn with them. Listen to them. If we all did what our elders did, we would still all be in caves.

Anyway, I’m proud that my kid is able to communicate his thoughts so eloquently and I’m proud of him.

Trigger warning ⛔️ hospitals

So my dad has been in the hospital for six days. I was told he could go home in a few days. A few more days hospital talk means more than that and dad has pneumonia too. But i have more time to prepare for his coming home cleaning and getting the stuff he needs #health #parent

#Vacation ended and I went back to #work on #Friday. It was a low key day.

A couple things I've continued to do since starting vacation:

1.) The hour-long solo #winter hikes before work. This has done wonders for my #brain.

2.) Decreasing my "reliance" on #tech. Still using the flip phone for daily comms. My #smartphone is on silent, usage is significantly less, and only check in with notifications and messages a couple times a day.

Not that I am a sedentary person. Quite the opposite but as a #caregiver and #parent for a #disabled #child, self-care time is, by several orders of magnitude, significantly less.
