We currently waste approximately 2/3rds of all #energy production and 2/3rds of all electric power generation.
That doesn't change significantly by adding more #nuclear (or solar or wind) to our generating capacity, and our problem is not that we can't produce enough energy, our problem is that we waste too much energy, because we produce too much energy and our land use policies encourage #sprawl, amplifying #waste and inefficiency.
We need #conservation and #PowerDown first and foremost.
@civicDetroitDan I deplore the fact that the only "solutions" to climate collapse that seem to ever be discussed by most people are supply-side economics. 2/3rds of all energy resources we consume end up as "rejected energy", which is to say it's wasted, rather than being actually used. Simply changing an end-use to electrical power doesn't change this reality, so rather than shifting supply, we need to #powerdown, we need to reduce demand, first and foremost.
