Two tufted ducks swimming alongside each other, the female slightly ahead but further from the camera. They look sleek and healthy. The male is ink black with a white side and an elegant swept back tuft, the female browner and more subtle.

Oops! my server went off line for a period. Perhaps, I missed a maintenance announcement? Hence my delay in reporting the continuing story of tonight's visit by a #heron outside our lounge.

As #sunset began to change the light #tuftedducks and #mallard gathered on the lake behind the heron.

I went to transfer the photos to my computer only to have Diana reporting that now three #muntjac #deer had crossed from the neighbour's field and joined the party.

A slightly untidy #ThreeDuckThursday - two tufties and a mallard.

An expanse of water with reeds coming up here and there - two tufted ducks are swimming from left to right in silhouette, which is well and good as in the poor light its uncertain whether you would be able to see much colour in their feathers. In the top right a mallard swims slowly away, its head turned to one side (the right). It is somehow like the melancholy ending to an artistic French movie.

Pochard: 7 ducks fly in formation from right to left. Below is water and behind, out of focus, golden reeds and scrub covered sand dunes. There are 5 male ducks with bright reddish-brown heads, black breasts and tails and pale grey bodies. The 2 females have lighter brown heads and more mottled grey/brown bodiesWigeon: A male wigeon rears up out of the water, spreading it's wings wide. It's head and neck are chestnut, It has a yellow forehead, pink breast, grey body, white belly and white wing patches.Tufted and Long-Tailed Ducks: A lone Long-Tailed Duck swims between a pair of Tufted Ducks. The Long-Tailed duck is side on, It has brown and white markings, A dark beak with a pinkish band. It's head is mostly white with a dark cap and cheek patch. It has a disappointingly short tail. The tufted ducks are facing the camera with a female on the left of the picture and a male on the right. The female is a dark brown colour and the male mostly black with white sides. They both have broad beaks, bright yellow eyes and "tufts" of feathers at the back of their heads which are pressed flat in the photo.Northern Shoveler and Teal in Flight: A single teal leads a group of Northern Shoveler in flight across water from right to left. The teal is a male and has a chestnut coloured head with broad green eye-patches, a spotted chest, grey lower sides. There are 3 female shovelers and 2 male. The females are mottled brown while the males have dark green heads, with white breasts and chestnut flanks. Both have huge spatula-shaped bills and patches of light blue and green on their wings.
